Hi, i bought a range rover 4.0 se 98 with lpg last week. after getting it home i noticed a solenoid passing gas, so decided to get it changed and have the system checked out...I had the system checked out and solenoid changed. I need a new lamda sensor?? He quoted £120, is there anywhere better? Also...whilst driving on lpg, when i sometimes slow down for a juntion and roll to a stop, the revs drop right off and sometimes stalls!!! this has happened twice now and tarting to be embarrassing. Can anyone help??

hi ive just paid £120.00 for 2 lambda sensors they are manufactured by intermotor and available at most factors.
your stalling could well be due to the faulty lambda sensor thats been diagnosed.

no mate thats for 2 sensors , and i fitted them myself , 10mins work

no mate there are 2 on my car ( 1997 4.6 hse ) one for each bank , fitting is straight forward enough , undo the plug and unscrew the sensor and bobs yer uncle i refitted mine with a bit of copper grease on the threads to ease the refitting .
the plug on the replacment sensors were different to the originals so i just cut off the plugs and soldered the original plugs onto the new sensor wire all the wires where identical colours so you cant go wrong really.
i bought mine from a local factor up here in bolton , but any half decent place should be able to source them for you .

there are 2 different types on the p38a and i dont know when they changed , ithink it may be 1999 my , though i could be wrong .
its easy to check though the earlier type there is only 2 sensors one for each bank , and the later type have 4 fitted i.e two for each bank.
so when i went to my local factors and asked about the lambda sensors he told me there is only one type they do which was the 5-0 volt switching which is the type i wanted .
so i assume this is also the type fitted to your vehicle , just stick your head underneath and check you should find one sensor before the cat , if there is also one after the cat as well then you must have the later type .

LPG running costs....How many miles should i get to a tank of lpg?? It costs roughly 25quid to fill my tank. Could maybe do with a bigger tank. Mine is the 4.0 type single point conversion. Plus my led guage is crap, go round a bend and its either reading empty or full!!! Misses cant cope with that she saying. Any help?? Cheers

mpg figures depend on a multitude of different factors i.e driving style , driving conditions, state of tune of your engine .
on average though i get about 180 mls to £25.00 worth of gas i haven`t really worked out the exact mpg tbh , btw though mine is a 4.6 hse with multi point lpg . it used to have single point but i took it off and fitted multi point as the single was sh*te .
as far as the level indicator goes you are far better to use the trip gauge as the lpg indicators are never really that accurate anyway , altough the one on mine seems to be pretty much spot on

given the fact that your car is a single point system it may well have a seperate lambda sensor , which will of course mean its most likely that one that your mechanic suggests needs to be changed .

My mates P reg 4.0 P38 auto with a multi point LPG system was knocking out 17.8 per gallon of gas on Sat when we went to Newcastle. I was well ****ed off as the super stranglated emission system of the same engine in my Disco won't achieve more than 14 mpg.
