I have a 2009 FL2. Power steering packed up earlier this year. Since then, following various advice on here and elsewhere I have changed the rack, pump (3 x rimes!) and the reservoir twice. unfortunately didn’t find out that rack swrf was probably the issue until after two piump chnges! However, jus had whole system changed, resevoir, pump and rack (recon from WPS, recommended to me). Drove car out of garage, lasted about 20 miles and it has failed again, at low revs below about 1800 rpm on auro box, judders and intermittently locks. Seems OK at higher revs. I am stumped and any advice gratefully received - I live in Cyprus and it can be difficult to obtain spares to compund the matter!

Thank you in anticipation……..

Wasn't there reports on here a while back of F2 steering jamming and spinning cars? Or have I made that up!

Must admit, I don't really know how power steering works, but it sounds like valves jamming/slamming shut.

There was an issue where some weld splatter made its way into the assembled rack, which then broke free once the vehicle had been used. Unfortunately weld splatter is very hard, which will do the rack seals and pump no good at all.
In theory the filter in the reservoir should have prevented the the weld splatter from reaching the pump, but sometimes it managed to get into the pump, destroying it quite effectively.
Once the pump has been damaged, more metal particles are pumped around the system, trashing the system.
If the pump has been effected, all components need replacing including the lines, or metallic bits left inside will simply continue to circulate, causing damage to any replacement parts fitted.

Thank you for your comments. All parts have been changed, system flushed as stated in my query. Aware ot the swarf issuevwhich is why everything renewed!
