HI IM NEW TO THE SITE AND NEW TO RANGE ROVERING, WE JUST BOUGHT OUR N REG 4.OL SE LAST NIGHT.. :D
I FILLED IT UP WITH LPG THIS MORNING, DROVE TO GET THE SHOPPING AND CAME HOME,
AFTER UNLOADING THE SHOPPING I DECIDED TO GO OUT AGAIN I PULLED OFF THE DRIVE AS NORMAL, 2MINS DOWN THE ROAD THE LPG DISPLAY STARTED BEEPING AND SWITCHED BACK TO PETROL,I THOUGHT IT MAY HAVE RUN OUT OF GAS SO WENT BACK TO REFILL BUT I COULD ONLY GET £5 IN SO I DROVE HOME CONFUSED.
MYSELF AND MY MATE WERE HUNTING AROUND FOR A FEW HOURS, IT RUNS ON GAS WHEN IN NEUTRAL BUT THE MINUTE YOU REV IT OR DRIVE SLOWLY AWAY IT STARTS BEEPING AND FLASHING AND SWITCHES BACK IT ALSO CUT OUT A FEW TIMES, WE CHECKED THE FUSES THEY SEEM OK, IVE READ POSTS ON THIS SITE WITH SIMILAR PROBLEMS AND THINK IT MAYBE THE FILTER, MAY HAVE TO BOOK IT IN FOR A SERVICE:(
I THOUGHT I WOULD POST THIS JUST INCASE ANY1 MAY KNOW WHAT ELSE IT COULD BE OR IF THERE IS SOMETHING SIMPLE I HAVN'T CHECKED, I REALLY DON'T KNOW WHAT IM LOOKING FOR AS IM USED TO MERCEDES, BMW AND VAUXHALLS:doh: HAHA I WILL CATCH ON QUICK

IT IS MADE BY ROMANO ITS A SEQUENTIAL INJECTION SYSTEM

calm down and stop shouting!

nobody like a whinger with a big gob.

righty, you need to establish what kind of system you have, single point or multi point.

you will have a vapouriser, a cylindrical aluminium device thats turns liquid gas into vapour, locate that and then see where the pipes go, you should have a gas feed, a water flow and return and a gas out. tell me what on the gas out, if its a bank of solenoids then its multi. if it goes to the air intake its single point.

the three diagrams there will help you sort it out!!

now once you have found the system type you need to find the ecu if it has one, usually a black or silver box bolted near the cars ecu in the engine bay.

once you have found that then you can aquire the lead and software to see if there are any faults.

if your car has a boyracer type filter, i would say its a single point system and i reckon its an aeb leonardo ecu on it!!

let me know and i'll tell you how top continue.

and dont forget to update your profile with your location so suitable help can be suggested!!!

I'm not familiar with fancy gas injection systems, but as I understand it they still employ an evaporator.
Your SUPPOSED to be able to start from gas with a suqrter set up, I was lead to believe, however, fact that it switches to petrol as soon as you try putting it on load, I wonder whether there is a temperature over-ride to stop it more than idling until warm....

before getting too technical here, just try the old demister test...... start it up and let it idle on the drive for, I dont know five minutes, with the heater and blower on, and leave it idling until you are getting a good breeze of hot air out the vents, sort of tem you'd want to demist the windscreen on a damp autumn morning........ then try putting it on load, and see if it still switches back to full Price fuel.....

no lpg system will start on gas, neither should it!!

it can however bet set this way if one desires but it will freeze the vapouriser and cause issues in the cooling system!!!

the squirter systems will only change when the temp is correct, this would not change back tho under load. there are numerous setting that could change it back i.e the 'switch to petrol on low lpg' setting.

i know its full but if the software is calibrated wrong for the lpg guage then it wil switch back if it thinks its low!!!

Ooh! Can the lpg guage be calibrated? Mine shows empty after about 60 miles, but doesn't start bleeping until it's really empty (after about another 180 miles).

My lpg place reckoned all the guages were just rubbish, but it would be interesting to see if it was just a calibration problem...

Thanks for the quick responses, Sorry about the shouting lol, do you winge that much to your wife ha ha only joking..:D

ive been chatting to the lpg specialist he said to run the rr on petrol then change it to gas when the engine is warm, im leaving for work sooo hopefully it kicks in going down the A13, if not ill be on petrol for a while ahh.
The specialist said he want's me to try a few things first b4 i book it in with him and he has to take my money..
The guy we bought it from started it on petrol the when started switched it straight over to gas..

I had loads of problems with mine when I first got it - my lpg specialist sorted them all though and it's been perfect since. I did need new injector/solenoid blocks though which cost a bit.

My system starts on petrol and automatically switches to gas when the engine has warmed up enough.

The bloke that sold me the car told me I had to do it manually but he was wrong - I read the manual for the lpg system and it's worked fine ever since.

I know every system is different, but that's the way I would expect a decent system to operate.

Guy

Wher are you based I had mine done by a really excellent garage in Slough BPV really tidy installation properly calibrated and have done 80 k miles with no probs - mine is sequential try Barry if he is near enough

We are in basildon essex,
I drove it to work on petrol, tried to switch it over to gas manually but the gas gauge started beeping at me so i switched it back to petrol.
On my break I started it as normal it switched over to gas automatically and ran on gas in neutral when i put my foot on the throttle and got the revs up the engine cut out dead.
I phoned an lpg specialist and he says it could be the sender in the tank, or the maf sensor or even something blocked, he said it was definately not the filter. he has told me to take it down to him and he will check it over.

Strange..

ive just gone down to basildon town centre a message, i thought id try it again and it worked, it's now been running on lpg smoothly, im guessing something was blocked, or maybe even frozen:confused::confused:
Im due to leave for work soon so hopefully thats it fixed, i should just get it checked to make sure..:(

I have a similar problem on mine. A Romano fitted on 2005 Mercedes S class. It held around £32 worth of gas when I first bought the car 3 months ago but lately its been switching over to petrol when its down to 1 green bar It ticks over on gas but soon as I pull away the red petrol light comes on. Once stopped at lights the green gas light comes back on until I drive off & the red petrol light comes on again. Filling up the boot mounted tank cures the problem but I can now only get around £22 worth of gas into the tank. It then drives perfect until its down to 1 bar again. The system does not beep anymore but I know there is a few litres left in the tank that is not being used. Any advice would be welcome. I had a gas safety check about 2 months ago & it passed with no issues.

If the tank isn't level then the guages will misread and cut out when you still have fuel. Also, will stop filling earlier than you expect.

Alternatively run it on proper fuel, like petrol
I admit to being bias having had so many problems with LPG that totally nullified any savings in running costs of a RV8. I won't touch it now.
