am after a new shape rr and the petrol versions seem quite a bit cheaper, whats best either buy one with a conversion already done, or get a good conversion done yourself by a reputable installer? What would a good install cost, and whats best option to go for tank wise, size etc?

Is there any grant available for LPG conversions, or was this only a few years ago? I'm sure i heard something about it a while back

theres no help whatsoever for lpg, you can park anywhere in sheffield tho for £10 a year!!!

london have a couple of benefits.

you will be better off finding a ready converted one but make sure you read up on lpg conversions as there are a wide range of manufacturers and types!!!

Can you explain what is that LPG conversion. Have seen it very often in this forum but I'm from Puerto Rico and I don't think we have those modifications available here.

lpg is a gas (kinda like propane) and you can run your car on it, you have to have the car modified so that it will run on lpg its not hard to do but is a bit complex at times.

google lpg coversion and read up on it!

Not sure if it's true for L322s but P38s with a conversion already done don't seem to be worth any more than one without so it might be worth looking for one already done as it will cost at least £2k for a decent install.

To be honest, I wouldn't expect a cheap and nasty install on one of those considering what they cost, but you never know! Check the certificate (although that doesn't necessarily guarrantee a good install job).

I have a feeling that an lpg conversion may lower your car tax (if it's post 51 which it will be), but I'm sure someone could confirm that. You may need to remove or significantly reduce the petrol tank to qualify though.

I was idly thinking about one of these last night - there was a nice looking one in the classified section of LRO already converted. The equivalent of 40mpg allegedly!

I would buy one already converted. My conversion cost me £2000 a few years ago on a L322, it was a multipoint inj and I haggled a bit as it was £2200 origonally. Before conversion the RR was doing aboout 17-18 MPG after conversion it is doing about 14MPG on Gas but at least half the price.

I have a V70 T5 which is LPG converted and thought long and hard about which RR to get.

I went for a TD6 in the end, for a few reasons.

1 - I can keep the spare wheel in the back
2 - Less to go wrong (had injector issues/more to service on the volvo)
3 - Less time standing at petrol stations
4 - Less of a gamble as to whether the LPG pumps are actually working or not, I found it very difficult to rely on certain stations for their fuel, where as Shell almost always are ok
5 - I like the way the TD6 delivered its power and how the autobox matched the engine well.
6 - Cost. Looking at the 4.4 (or 4.2 jag engine from 05>) + LPG kit you're into TD6 money anyway. Resale (in my opinion) will always be better on the TD6 too as 2nd hand LPG converted cars do not add the £2k paid for the conversion.
7 - On the TD6 Vogue you get the fuel burning heater as standard. This is really important to me as I suffer terribly with the cold (medical reasons etc) and having that function was critical for me buying the car. Along with the heated steering wheel!

I know it was a big come down in speed from a T5 to the TD6 but actually, everything about the range rover feels laid back and I just think it gives me more time to enjoy the experience.

If you're anything like me you'll drive the car to it's abilities (what ever they are).

Hope this helps

cheers guys, itguy very helpful, can i ask few questions please?

1 - does filling with lpg take much longer, i read about 95 litre lpg tanks, and assume RR has 100 litre petrol tank, is it noticeably slower to fill lpg?

2 - is the 3.0d quick enough for such a heavy vehicle? never even been in one yet but kinda worried it may be under powered? (going to try a few over next few weeks)

It seems to depend on the pump. Some garages do have really slow pumps, but remember that you're generally putting in more lpg than you would petrol. My local BP station's lpg pump seems to be ok speedwise but some of the Shell ones I've used have been really slow.

Can't answer your 2nd point, I'm afraid.

1. Getting the pump on to your tank filling point can be a bit fiddly. Also have to remember that a 95 litre tank will only have approx 75 litre capacity (from memory), and with the reduced mpg you have to be organised on fill ups or you can end up running around on petrol.

2. Td6 is fairly sluggish in standard form but there are plenty of chips and remaps out there to give it a boost.
