Hi just wondering if anyone can help I'm new to range rovers and LPG. I recently bought a 1996 se 4.0 v8 running on LPG. I took it f or a run out and opened it up causing it drop down the auto box when I heard a bang and lost power saying gearbox fault I thought o s**t but when I opened bonnet i found something that looks like a valve i found out what it is a backfire release valve made by poliauto. They have fitted two of the valves one at rear and one at the front of the plenum chamber and the rear one is buggered, I can't seem to find anywhere in the uk to order one, and their 127 euros from Poland.

Could I replace the plenum chamber and fit a back fire valve after the chamber but before mac sensor. Also my air filter is a induction style with flap on end I was told this was fitted with LPG system

Part is on poliauto.net in product section I'm unsure on size at the minute.

Thanks Lee

Can I ask is it a single point LPG kit? Also before you just fit a new valve I'd be questioning why it back fired.

I think its single point and I only had the range two days, but I took it out too day and it ran fine no backfire etc was cruising nicely. ( iv put the valve back in for time being as it wouldn't run due to pressure loss) I'm going to get it tuned and serviced on my days off

Single points do backfire well mine does like a pig sometimes when you give it the beans , im gonna get mine changed to multipoint as its a much more refined system, you'd be looking at about £500 to get a multi point front end set up which IMHO is the way to go or atleast thats what im doing once ive rebuilt my engine

My Classic used to back fire every now and then, it would stall and blow off one of the vacuum pipes. It was a right swine to find the first time! A Vectra I had converted back fired too.

Single point systems are not great, the multi point on my current car is much better

Single point systems back fire when the tank pressure starts to drop when the LPG level gets low...

My '93 classic used to pop about 25 miles before the tank ran out...as my LPG gauge didn't work, I used to run it till it hiccupped then fill up!

Never heard of a valve on the plenum, mine had one fitted in the ducting between the MAF and the Throttle....and I never had an issue.

Replace the plenum and ensure there is one fitted between throttle and MAF....

As for the air filter...I never had an special Air Filter for the '93 and my L322 is a Sequential System and that runs a standard filter too
