Hi folks

I should get new-to-me L322 back end of next week (fingers crossed) and want to convert to LPG BUT though an installer that folk on here have used and can recommend. PRINS likely for this one and want good job done plus warrantly and some evidence of after sales services to address issues.

Any recommendations (or otherwise) gratefully accepted.

BTW If I can find one in Scotland with good references happy to toodle down to the Midlands if needs be.

I am opening this and will get :flame2: But why would anyone want to do that ? Had a look about, about LPG yesterday with BGB question. found a 50% reduction in HP, and a decrease of 20% on MPG with a higher maintenance cost ,and higher operating temperature . So with everything factored in for the life on the vehicle It was not a savings. Was said it was a false savings as most just say the fuel is cheaper, and go with that thought. The only plus was it did not pollute like petrol.

So be gentle just asking is all

50% reduction in Hp!!!!

Think someone has been having problems with their maths :rolleyes:

My experience is that it does save money and I do not notice the power loss if I'm just driving around. Floor it and you will notice. Big deal.

LPG is less efficent than petrol by around 15-20%....this is because you have to squirt more LPG in to get the same bang as on petrol....

A decent LPG system installed will/should be no less in power than on petrol if it is set up correctly to inject more gas to match the petrol output....

my Single Point system on my 3.9 classic wasn't set up correctly and there was a noticable difference in power output (not 50% mind) than petrol, but on my L322 there is no noticable difference in power output between the two fuels sources, but it is around 17% less efficent on gas....

Saint look at me link....... they took a 330 hp chevy and did a dyno on it .petrol 330hp the did a lpg conversion did another dyno 153HP so when the eggspert use engineering and test equipment give the test results and all thing equal, other than fuel types .

so you are saying there testing is faulty
Results from your link....using a 330hp Chevvy engine....factory output on petty is only 153HP any way

perhaps the most fun derived from the kit is the look on a person's face when you inform them our big ugly ex-Army beast is an ultralow emissions alternative fuel machine.

* Running on propane (factory advance) - 142 hp/206 lb-ft
* Running on gasoline (factory advance) - 152 hp/221 lb-ft
* Running on propane (optimized advance) 143 hp/210 lb-ft

So they used a single point system injecting into the Carb.....not a sequential Multipoint system controlled through the Gas ECU to match the output on Petrol by adjusting injection timings and automatically advancing the ignition based on the closed loop system of the Lambdas and emission control services....

I'm just asking a question is all,,, trying to figure out why is all

Why is what?

You said it was almost 50% less power....from the link you provided, the engine was generating 152hp on Petty and then 143hp on LPG...so is around 7% down...which is very good.

LPG has a higher Octane rating than Petrol which means it burns quicker, but the energy produced during that burn is less - LPG has a lower calorific value (The amount of energy it is able to produce for a given sample size).

So in order to ensure the burn lasts long enough and produce enough energy to move the pistons, you have to inject more LPG than you would petrol to obtain the same output from the engine hence why running on LPG is less efficent than Petrol....

LPG is cheaper so there is a cost saving there, just you use more of it!!

The stock engine they used in the test you linked to would have produced 330hp from new, but when they tested it as it was during the test it was only producing 152hp on petrol and after the LPG install they managed 143hp.....

As an engine ages, the amount of power it can produce reduces due to component wear etc....so the stock 330hp producing 153hp is getting on in years by the sounds of it!

Folks

:hijacked:

Any chance of you taking the argument elsewhere ? I ran LPG in my P38 for 3 yrs and have no issues with it so thanks for the input but so far in 2 pages I have 1 recommendation that thru personal experience I won't be following.

Btw re going further than Perth. Frequently to get to Cairngorm, Glenshee etc.

So back on topic : does anybody have any recommendations for a good installer in Scotland ?
