I'v got a 1995 V8 with LPG, ran the tanks to virtually empty, felt a lack of power, so assumed they were empty. It has 2 x 36 Ltr tanks so filled up and pump stopped at 58 ltrs, about right from reading the forum regards ullage. Did 140 miles so filled up again to see what MPG I was getting, this time the tanks took 66 Ltrs before the pump stopped and that was before the tanks were empty. Now I know the MPG on these figures is poor but can anyone tell me why I got more gas into the tanks on the second fill ?

sounds bout right, unless the tanks are completely empty they gonna fill at diff levels, how much did it cost to get the 140 miles?

If the tanks are mounted correctly, there is a float valve that cuts the filler off at 80% of gross volume. We have 2 X 33 litres and we get 48 litres for about 150 miles driving, less on motorways.

If one of the float valves is faulty then you'll get more in.

Its also down to the temperature, how much volume you can get in, both LPG and petrol. The colder the temperature, the more you can get in, hence its better to fuel up in the morning or evening rather the than in the height of the day. Not really applicable in the current climate, but it does make a difference during the 3 days of summer we get.
I've a pair of 40ltr tanks and can usually squeeze in a low 60's litre and she usually needs topping up again as we pass the 200 mile mark. 220 is not impossible depending on how hard you drive, so the figures look ok to me.

Something wrong here surely, the first fill was 58 Ltrs empty tanks to full tanks, covered 140 miles of steady A road driving, the second fill was 66 Ltrs to full, and I dont think the tanks were empty. So i only got 140 miles from 66 Ltrs. Which equates to about 10 MPG. It was filled on cold days, so cant see why I got more in on the second fill

Looking at your reply Listerdiesel, it may be the cut off float failed to cut off on the second fill, if so my figures for working out the MPG will be wrong, because it allowed more fuel in on the second fill compared to the first fill. If this keeps happening then I will never be able to work out my MPG. Just couldn't believe I only got 10 MPG on a steady run. This is my first Discovery and I went for the V8 LPG as having read on here some people were getting 18 to 20 MPG no probs. It may turn out to be a short ownership :(

I have a 95 3.9V8 with LPG and twin tanks. My fill varies between low and upper 50's. This is the second LPG truck I have had, the other being a 4.0L Jeep Cherokee, I have found that trying to work out consumption on one or two fills is totally impossible/unreliable. You need to check over a longer period.

Also remember you are driving a vehicle that has high fuel consumption anyway so different types of driving and type of trips can affect it by quite a lot.

Well topped the tanks up today and they took 18 ltrs to fill, I had covered 42 miles since last fill so I am getting 10 MPG steady driving, not town driving, this cant be right, the car drives fine, maybe it needs to go for a LPG service. Then if it's no better it needs to go !

We got 14 mpg on the last calculation, that's a mixture of running round and some faster stuff.

Based on about half the price of petrol that is roughly equivalent to 28 to the gallon. That's as good as you'll get for a 2 ton brick with a 4 litre engine.

When we had ours, lowest we got was 9mpg (that was driving it rather hard on some hilly roads - would have been better suited to some track going porsche rather than a Disco!) and the best we got was about 18mpg on a run down south to see relatives (80ish most of the way - slight tail wind), that was on 2x36 tanks, 60 liters was about the most we ever got in fill up wise.

May be going back to an LPG disco, the V6 Freeby is getting about those MPG figures without LPG  and it won't do off road as happily as the disco would (and it'll work with my name again :D).

ur sums are wrong surely? 66l = £33 ish = aroung 7 gal ish of petrol equivelant? = 20mpg ish without going into exact detail... or av i got it wrong cos i is ****ed? i get aroung 80-100 on £20ish ... lots of ishes but u aint geting 10mpg

As I mainly use the car to get to work and back a 38 mile round trip on an A road, at a steady 55 MPH locked up in 4th gear most of the way then I was hoping to get around 15 MPG. The LPG system is a AEB with a Romaro super 2 stage vapouriser. There is a black plastic looking valve/tap which is sprung loaded between the vapouriser and the inlet manifold is this used to adjust the gas flow ?

Think ya must be? cos 66ltr = 14.52 gall
yes but......lpg-petrol equivelant, 66l at say 50p per l = £33 which is in terms of petrol prices is 7.26 gallons worth (did ya read me post?) :p and if he's getting 140 miles to £33 he aint doing bad

I did but it made no fooking sense whatsoever So I applied ****ology translation to it and it still mad no fooking sense whatsoever. So I just took a stab at it anyway. :D :D

Sorry to butt in guys, but my second fill was 66 Ltrs at a cost of £37.88. Now I may be missing something here but to travel 140 miles for £37.88 is pretty poor I think.

try putting £37.88 of petrol in it and see how many miles you get... its a 3.9l 2ton+ brick what mileage was you expecting to get out the lpg?
