Still going to clean out the inlet manifold and change the sedimenter ( have a spare ) but still really shocked by the difference. Thing is my disco has still been a nice drive and this is effectively with the turbo doing chuff all. Will this have affected the fuel i will have been using? ....also noticed a complete bitch of an oil leak as well so can't exactly sit back and relax.

You are doing the right thing - go through your Disco from front to back then it'll be in great condition for the next 10 yrs.

Unfortunately having a full service history guaranttees' nothing with these cars, preventative maintenance is the only way to go - they they are brilliant.

Have you changed the engine, gearboxes and diff oils, coolant and brake fluid yet?

Also to avoid braking problems, consider changing the discs and pads on both axles- the parts are cheap it's just your time.

Also, re the wheel bearings, assuming they are still in good nick take them out, wash them out with petrol, dry and them re-pack with bearing quality grease. Thinking about it for the cost (peanuts) just replace with new SKF with good grease repacked.

It's a bit of a bore at first but you'll reap the benefits with better mpg and reliability.

Re-grease the prop U/j's and sliding joint.

Modifications:

De-EGR;
De-Cat - this is where you replace the catt'd exhaust downpipe, a new non-catt'd one costs about £15 from Paddocks !!!

Dave

PS The split turbo hose will have reduced power so you'll have been using more pedal to get anywhere, so yes, it will have increased mpg.

Get rid ov the sedimenter , they are ****, Defender tdi's dont av em. Bin it ! :D

Did the oil, coolant and am going to regrease the wheels soon as. Had a spare sedimenter for some long forgotten reason, think it was in a box of stuff I got with it from the dealer and from the look of the one on now its never been touched let alone cleaned. Being completely honest though i came from fast cars to my landy and it gets a little bit abused. When I bought it from the dealer i got a three month warranty and one of the lads who has three land rovers drove it round and gave me a 'get sorted' list which i duly got done. In the two years i have had it i haven't had to do anything apart from basic stuff and tyres cos it just goes. This was a niggle that got me fiddling and i am glad i did. Okay so i came away with a list of other stuff to do but for a 15 year old car none is necessary its just cos I want to. I never got to say this with the other boy racers I had, probably as i had to replace all the stuff i burnt the arse out of.

And as mentioned before its been de'egrd and decatted ... After looking through some of the posts on here i have a few ideas...

update to this is....
i have just been for a week in the lake district with the family and this included two 137 mile trips along our beloved m6 and many miles of back lane driving...
the difference for replacing the elbow and cleaning out the intercooler et al is amazing she was holding on the motorway at 75 for most of the journey with no real effort and minimal turbo noise and when I "tried" out the extra oomph managed to get to over 90 with a bit left and also normal driving is a hell of a lot smoother to boot.Off road the car seemed to be a bit better I am assuming this is due to the better breathing now a majority of the gunk is gone so altogether not bad for a fifteen year old car.
Now dont get me wrong, I wont be doing these speeds or this driving much but the fact that they are there makes a big difference and makes my daily driving experience much nicer when in fact I was already pretty happy with it.

big big thanks to all.
