Low on petrol

My V8i was low on fuel, I've not had it long and not used it much but its always started first time . I was turning it round to put on the drive when it started to splutter then stalled. I put a can of petrol in, 10 litres, but it wont start. Could it be an air-lock? If so how do I clear it? Any help would be appreciated!

Quite posible some crap from the bottom of the tank has found its way through and is blocking the fuel line.
