Back in the eighties, when I was good looking.........Ha, they were the days...I worked on a big farm in Swaffham Prior, Cambs. While I was there we built a "Low ground pressure sprayer", it was really wet one year, and we couldn't spray with all the big stuff we had so they had a contractor come with a wierd looking thing, I seem to remember it was based on a Cortina, but I might be wrong..
Anyway, we had a massive workshop in the yard, with all the gear, so we built our own. It began it's life as a SWB, petrol Land Rover, grey with a canvas back. We turned it into a LWB diesel, crop sprayer.

The chassis was cut in half, lenghtened and reinforced, the diesel engine was totally rebuilt, the rear deck was alloy stuff from a lorry bed and slotted together. It was very strong stuff. I believe at the time, the wheels and tyres were very expensive, I remember being told they were £200 each , there was 10psi in them,I remember that bit.:)
The tank held 1000 litres (approx 1 tonne), and the sprayer it'self was driven with a Honda engine.
The cab was kept standard, apart from a Bilstrom seat from a lorry, it was very comfy:D, and a few extra switches for the sprayer. And a digital speedo, which I remember was very accurate.

The last two photo's were the only time it ever got stuck ! it just dropped straight in to the axles!! Normally you could only just see the tyre pattern were you had been..
The carrier on the front was originally for the chemicals, but the laws changed soon after that, so we made a covered trailer for it, and also fitted a fresh water tank etc, for washing your hands.
It was a loverly thing to use, it would just about go anywhere, and was surprisingly good on the road too, it would easily do 60mph with a full tank !!!

Does anybody know if it still exists ????
I'd be very interested to hear.............

I think at the time it was reg'd as an agricultural vehicle, but wouldn't swear to it.. At least the old girl is still around..:D

I've some pics somewhere taken in the workshop, I'll bung 'em up if I find 'em.
Cheers man.

I like the weird and strange ones too, I found one the other day with a back actor (digger) attached to the rear of the chassis!!!!!!!

Good GOD !sorry about the size of that one...

Just fitted a boom sprayer to Series 3 as sick of 20 trips with a knapsack sprayer. If anyone is interested its a 3 metre boom and the container is 60 litres. At 60 PSI this will last 11 minutes.
