Hi guys

Got a D2 TD5 03 plate
Now its the first disco ive had but loving the ride. I tried yesterday to engage the low gear, just out of curiosity and was unable to get it to move?

Is it normally stiff or is there a knack to moving and engaging it?

Sorry if it comes across as a dumb question but im a disco noob ;)

Hi, it used to stuck when it's unused for longer period.....what u can try is to use lot of WD40 on the mechanism from above and below then get some help to lay under the car and push/pull the selector from the Transfer Box while u pull the lever(it's the short arm which is connected to a cable) ...... use brute force dont be gentle

Yup. Most are stiff. Many seize if not used, so copious amounts if WD40 from underneath and hefty force from inside. Preferably both at the same time. Might also be worth a steam clean underneath, because thatarea is a collector of cow **** and mud if used offroad.

TD5 GS 2003 ECU Remap 162Bhp

Hi fellow newbie! Just regarding your signature (above) I had my '53 Disco TD5 re-mapped about a month ago (Autologic) and have found its not only a hell of a lot better towing but also general drivability (even for an auto!). Whats yours like now its re-mapped?

i had the same problem, i took the center out and got at it from the top. i also took off the L/H stick housing and re greased it

It's like driving a new car, not sure about the Mpg yet as im still giving it some with it's new power :)

stats before and after:

Corrected power 130.4 BHP / 162.1
Engine Power 132.5 BHP / 161.1
Wheel Power 71.9 BHP / 102.6
Drag Power 60.6 BHP / 58.5
Max Power @ 4250rpm / 4025
Torque 213.6 lbf.ft / 257

looking at the EGR and decat mod but after some reading I should have done them before the ECU remap, never mind live and learn lol.
£300 for the remap which was all done on a dyno before during and after to make sure everything was running nice.

But yes im more than happy with the new power which a simple although not cheap mod can give to a disco.

Thanks for the stats. I'm also looking into the egr blank off mod, and also after lots of reading of the related threads its something I should of done before the re-map  Just gonna wait till it gets above freezing to do it!

Just another question, although I assume not just related to the DII, does a warning light appear on your dash when you put the hi / lo lever in neutral? Read the manual and one should, be no light appears. The hi / lo works fine mechanically, just no light on the dash.

Not sure on mine as atm its stuck.
Was going to have a bash at freeing it up today but 2 mins outside and decided I can live without low gear until its warmer outside :)
