A few pointers please before i start to pull things apart!

The chassis was replaced 2 weeks ago and all's been plain sailing since then until today!
I reversed out the drive earlier and i heard a metallic grinding noise from the front.
Once i moved forward it stopped making noise so i forgot about it.

Making my way home later, i went round a sharp left and i heard a nasty sounding scraping, grinding noise which didnt go away. I pulled over to have a look but couldnt see owt so drove off cautiously. The noise is still there, slight noise whe moving in a straight line, no noise when turning right and lots of noise when turning left. Its sounds like it coming from the front right so im thinking bearings, CV or something else in that area.

Good idea's gladly accepted!

brake dust shield rubbing on disc

I was hoping it was just the brake shield but i pulled over at tesco and bent it out and its still the same.

Ive not had a chance to get right under with the wheel off yet so im hoping thats all it is. The bearings on the front axle are only about 18months old after i snapped a CV on the other side (rebuilt the whole axle)

You haven't got low pads rubbing on the lip of the brake disc?

Shouldnt be, it had new disks and pads when i did the axle rebuild and ive only done about 4k miles on it if that.

Im going to have to jack the corner up and pop the wheel off methinks

Pads only four months old and bearings only eighteen months old, Christ your stuff lasts a long time, that's about three bearing complete replacements and two sets of pads for me.I am going to guess at bearings.

Jeezus. I just changed my front bearings at the weekend and that's the first set I've put on my landy in the five years that I've had it. And the ones I took out weren't that bad either.

what brand/make bearings and seals

guessing ****part

Doesn't matter what you use off road things just dont last, 18 months I've had s sets of rear pads 2 sets of fronts and new rear calipers and 5 wheel bearings.

As for everything eles I might as well bought a chassis and built one my self I've replace that much on mine.

I had a grinding noise and turned out to be my rear diff. Also had a nasty noise last time I drove down the road and today found a massive stone stuck between the brake disc the guard and the wheel.

The joys of using your landy off road :D

All sorted - twas the dust cover catching the disk. I checked the front section of the dust cover but didnt look at the back section.

Thanks to all

My other half called saying she had broken down in her golf r32 th other night, so I jumped in the transit with my tool box and jack to go find her, git there she said it was making a nasty grinding noise like your Landy when your bin off road,

After a quick look her off Side disc heat shield was bent and ad trapped a stone.

It's nice when its simple things

Another update!

Got 1/2mile down the road and the noise returned! Jacked it up and the bearings had play in it so have tightened them up now and all seems good.
