int there a small pumpy thing that extracts fuel fumes back to the tank? and if yer post a piccy we'd know yer wur a wumum and treat yer as such.
i.e. all patronising and what have yer

reet - useful tip - if yu take it to a stealer to get it sorted it is gonna cost yu an arm an a leg - so keep an ear on it an if it dont get worse - live with it till it wont go - then get it fixed - it will still cost yu a second mortgage, but yu wont have to donate any organs to try and identify it.

secondly - if yu read between the lines above..... - wimmin is good at that - int they? the best advice we could give yu is DONT BUY A PETROL FREELANDER and if yu all ready got one SELL IT AND GET A TD4, or expect very large bills!

Oh well thanks very much guys for all your extremely helpful posts. Posted a thread in the hope there were some decent people out there! Obviously I was wrong.
By the way Im not a lad, Im a mother of a small baby and dont want to be driving if its not safe, hence me asking for help.
Please feel free to mock some more

Come back chezzar, we'll try and diagnose your fan noise problem for you.

Whats interesting is the comments you have received are from peeps who dont even own a 1.8

reet. next time it happens, pop the bonnet, and have a look just behind the radiator, making sure to keep hands and fingers clear (especially childrens). You will probably find the two fans going like the clappers.

Try restarting the engine, letting it idle for a min, then turn it off.

Do you get any warning lights while this is going on ?

check coolant ,check thermostat, check expansion tank for gunge, try running with heater on full see if it still runs the fans or maybe its just the landrover electric gremlins playing with the relays

think she's gorn..... oops..

oh, by the way i've had a petrol freelander... kept it for a whole 10 months:rolleyes:

Dont be so smug Andytd4 :p :D , the Td4 engine has an aluminium head, same stuff in the 1.8 k-series and yes even the Td4's have been known to blow gaskets. Even the RR 4litre HSE has had blown gaskets and associated leaks

Is that your MINI2 in the avatar? Guess what.......... there are some reports of hgf in them as well.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news ;)

as they say in Dads Army.............'We're all doomed!'

K-seal is only a temp fix to get you home. Long gone are the days when I threw an egg into the rad of an A-series engine in a mini.

Cowboy mechanics also use k-seal and the likes as a permanent fix
