Hi guys, just replaced the hub seal and swivel seal on the o/s/f wheel on my 90. I have replaced the railko bush, thrust washer and top swivel pin also. having put everything back together, firstly the swivel pin doesnt seem to go all the way down (theres about 3-4mm gap and wont go any further) and also theres a lot of play on the wheel when i rock it in the 6 and 12 oclock position. Is it likely to be the bottom swivel bearing or not? also what could be the reason for the top swivel pin not going all the way down? could the thrust washer be preventing it?

Thanks

I suppose the swivel bearing is a perfectly reasonable explanation for the problem you're experiencing, especially considering you've just had the swivel housing in bits. When you remove the swivel pin the swivel bearings do after all collapse. Did you remove it from the swivel housing carefully? I'd suggest lifting the pin back out, or at least half way, and then try to re-seat it, jiggling the pin left to right, up and down as you do so. If you're lucky, it'll pop back in. If not, you'll have to replace the bearing or re-pack it with grease - if that's how they are assembled (I can't remember). On the other hand, try removing one or two of the metal shims from the swivel pin before you re-fit it. There may have been some muck supporting the bearing, which was dislodged when you removed the pin. This would of course point to a worn swivel bearing, but the shims are there to help remove the play.

On the other hand, it might just be the wheel bearing that needs nipping up a bit. There is a way to tell which bearing is causing the problem through observing movement in the swivel housing. It's not an area I'm too familiar with however.
