ok so I decided to charge my battery as ive not used my 300tdi very much in the last few weeks and last time I started it from cold she seemed to struggle a bit not a huge amount but as the miles is so low I decided to put it on a low charge over night.

put the charge wires on to the battery (and being in a hurry did not disconnect the battery from the wiring in the car) closed the bonnet fully and locked the car with the remote as normal.

Came to unlock the car this morning and remote not working, tried my other remote that doesn't work either (I know it did) so got in the car with the key.

Popped the bonnet and removed the charger leads.

Turned on ignition and everything lit up as normal then the immobilizer light started to flash as I tried to start her.

On reflection ive probably caused this by not removing the battery to charge (and im kicking myself big time) ive searched for a link on here before asking you for help but haven't found anything, anyone able to point me in the right direction / explain what ive done.

Ps had the drover a few years now and never a remote problem so im sure ive caused this!

I've got my charger hard wired in, and use it frequently without ever disconnecting the battery. Never had this problem though. I need to actually touch the body with the remote fob whilst pressing the button or it doesn't work - been like that for a long time now. Usually touch on a back corner panel or drivers door - worth a try, it works for me.

Hi Roddyk05, thanks for reply, Just tried that but not happening for me (worth the try thanks)
now ive calmed down and had a beer, thought the following would be helpful to add to help in fault finding.
1.un-locking the drivers door with the key only unlocks that door no others.
2.interior light comes on when door opened, and stays on for a while when you get in and close the door.
3.No red led flashing (or at all)on dash before or after unlocking drivers door with key.
4.turn ignition key, radio comes on, wipers and everything electrical works.
5.After 3 seconds red led on dash lights constantly and imobilizer (key in car thing) light flashes below glow plug light.
6.if you leave the ignition on after glow-plug light goes out on the dash, about 15 seconds later you can hear the pre-heat circuit drop out. (normal)
7.no remote function at all from either key fob.

There has to be a common thing to all this but missing it at the moment.:confused:

Don't know if this'll help but when this happened to me I locked the LR so the alarm was set, undid an old wire coat hanger, pushed it through passengers door seal, waved it about in the car to set alarm off, when I pressed my remote it switched off alarm and unlocked the doors. I know it sound stupid but the alarm going off seemed to reset everything. Hope it works for you!

Try this:

1. Disconnect the battery earth;

2. put the key in the ignition (assuming the fob is attached??)

3. Re-connect the battery earth;

4. Start the engine!!

well this morning in the daylight and the cold!
Started to check this through, found the fuse panel on the drivers side, thinking I would check all the fuses one at a time, first one I pulled fuse 1 which is a 15 amp,er, was blown!
good start I thought as that was something, so after a rummage in my tool box found a fuse (15A) and fitted it (ignition off).
Stood back and used the remote to lock the doors and yes it worked..............................then ho @@@@ black smoke billowing from the drives side of the bonnet, had to run round to passenger side and unlock central locking(which worked!!) pop the bonnet all the time more smoke was billowing out.
Popped up the bonnet expecting to see flame's (an bricking it!) smoke along with a funny hissing sound was coming out of a black box behind the battery.
Black stuff was also coming out of the back of said box looking like a small volcano??? and the smell was of burning plastic/ rubber.
Pulled the plug that was in to the black box and got my extinguisher!!
Got back a few moments later and the smoke had stopped, just a bad smell left, so didn't need extinguisher!
The "box" is a siren for the alarm and has AMR 4974 on it.
I have removed it and checked everything over car now starts, locks and unlocks on the remote, even took it round the block to test.
Any thoughts anyone, now i'm not sure I could have caused this??
ive tried to take the box apart but other than popping the back cover off everything is covered with a silicon filling...that stinks...
I really don't understand this, so any thoughts would be really really welcome!

I'd just throw the siren in the bin and leave it at that. My alarm stuff does funny things, but as long as I can still get in and drive I'm happy. I unlock with the remote ( after touching the bodywork with it ) and when I open the door the interior light goes OFF. When I close the door the interior lights flash off and on in time with the red LED for the immobiliser. Again this is something I've lived with for a number of years, you get used to this sort of thing owning a Discovery. I'm saving up for an old MOD 110, no electronic trickery to go wrong there! Hope you get it sorted.
