Hi, I might have posted my question in the wrong spot, so here I go again

Hi lads and lassies, apologies for not being back sooner, hope you are all well.

My daughter has a Freelander 2, but, has lost her key. By lost, I mean, not mislaid, but totally lost..

Question is, if we source a new docking station with the relevant key, will they need reprogramming, or will the car start ok?

I understand that the code to open the doors might need fixed, but getting it to actually go is the main thing just now.

From memory, the new fobs will need coding to 4 or 5 modules in the vehicle, including the Ipack (dashboard ECM), CJB (body module), engine ECM, and so on, so it needs doing on dedicated LR equipment, or some other diagnostic equipment capable of such a vehicle re-code.

Don't forget you'll also need the hard lock, which is part of the passenger door handle, and a matching emergency key.

You can often buy whole kits of all necessary modules and the correct fobs, which might be a cheaper option. ;)

I know that the hard lock might be an issue, but the main thing is getting her she...car back on the road.
I've found a bloke fairly local who offers programming and cutting of a new key for around £200 ( although I'm curious as to how they'll get the pattern). Otherwise, I'll be @ £200 for a new ( recycled) set of everything plus the cost of a spark to fit them..

I would be tempted to take the offer of £200 ( see if you can get him to do 2 keys ! ) as you might save a few pennies shopping around but is it really worth the hassle ?

Also I would get your Daughter married off to some bloke so the car becomes her Husbands problem not her Dads.........:)

She's been married. The eejit left her, pregnant, and he shacked up with some ,well, this is a polite forum.
Anyway, the dipstick couldn't tell the difference between a grommet or a sprocket ( and he's in the REME..God save us all), so she's well rid.

Hi, is the 'dipstick' a vm/reecie mech/armourer or blacksmith ? If he's a vm the only LR he's probably worked on would be a Defender so anything else might be a bit of a problem:D:D:D.
