youve proved it needs to come to bits, does the top 5th gear and synchro hub turn when you turn input
Is 5th gear the cog that can be seen in the pictures? I will go and check.

Unfortunatly I do not have the skill, tools or time to rebuild the box. So if it needs doing I will take it back to Ashcroft. And complain it has t lasted longer at the same time!

yes if its in 5th as in one of your pics when you turn input it should its driven by the l/s gear below it, l/s gear could be the issue or splines securing the synchro hub too m/s

The top gear turns when the input shaft is turned. Does that mean the problem is lower down?

its the part selector surrounds and pushes over to 5th gear, its splined to m/s if splines have gone youd lose 5th gear as gear drives synchro hub once selected, hub drives m/s

That looks to be turning as well then. Everything I can see looking into the top of the box turns when the input shaft is turned even if the output shaft is not turning. Does that narrow things down as to what the problem may be? I am planning on calling ashcrofts today to see what they say. They rebuilt it last time, and it has not lasted very long (as far as I am concerned), but even if they are not interested in that I will probably still send it back to them as their turn around was about a week!

it would sound like the selector hub to m/s splines have stripped so hub no longer drives the m/s when you fit the hubs some are quite loose a fit some take a lot of pressure and good tight fit, looser ones are more likely to strip i think

Thank you for the info, I did not fit it last time, I gave it to Ashcroft to be rebuilt. If the traffic clears I will try and get it down to them today as their current return date is 18th which I do not think is a bad turn around time.
