Hi can any one help my 1996 P38 with the BMW engine fitted keeps lossing power sometimes it will cut out ,allways restarts the orange light comes on when it happens .just got it back from local garage who diagnosed a stop fault they fitted a new stop solenoid and re wired it but fault is still there .have just changed fuel filter and it has had a tank pump/sender fitted about 8 month ago any ideas ?
 
Leak off pipes, needle lift sensor etc. Ask the garage what the actual fault code was that led them to the stop solenoid, or were they just guessing?

First step is to get the fault codes read.
 
99% sure its the no. 4 injector. Mine used to do it.

The Bosch EDC gets the engine revs data from the needle lift sensor -No.4 injector with the wire coming out of it. If there is something wrong with this it registers a fault with orange light coming on, it then goes into 'limp home' mode using the crank sensor. In my case I had a dead no'4 injector and an intermittent fault on the crank sensor so it used cut out completely. The crank sensor is cheap enough but the No.4 injector is saucy.

I got mine posted from TT Automotive in Loughborough on advice from another forum member. They were as cheap as I could find, really helpful, posted it to Ireland immediately and were generally well worth the phonecall.
 
loss of power
orange light on all the time,scaned it with snap on scanner,said needle lift sensor,disconnected wire light still stays on ,anyone have any ideas please
 
HI cars in garage again they have took injector pump off and had it tested , low pressure delivery from the pump so having to get recon pump !
