Hi All,

I think I know what could have happened, but had a rather annoying experience at lunchtime today merrily powering down the motorway in my RR 4.2 Supercharged V8 (6yrs old) only to find the power started to drop off and continue to the point where two messages came up, transmission fault, then it went again, only to be replaced by the dreaded "reduced engine performance" reading. Fuel was about 1/4 of a tank and on pulling over to the hardshoulder, shutting down and leaving for a few minutes, then restarting, it seemed ok.

I pulled back out onto the motorway and all was fine/back to normal for about 3-4 minutes then the power drop kicked in and eventually I ended up stuck on the hardshoulder once more calling the RAC for help.

The guy who arrived was very helpful and given that the car would restart/drive onto their recovery truck, his initial thoughts were the lambda sensor could be faulty. Mileage on my vehicle is 98K (motorway miles mostly) but if anyone have some thoughts as to potential other causes of the problem I would be keen to know.

Waiting now on my dealer to find a slot to get my pride and joy back up and running again. I don't think it is mechanical, seems electrical.

Thanks.

doubt gearbox is broken but something could be up with it.

when was the last time your gear box was serviced ? eg change of oil and filter ?

A friend of a friend has just had a similar problem on a sport, it came down to the alternator.:)

After all of that, fault now identified to be a faulty fuel pump! Yesterday they thought it was EGR valves, at least the pump a little cheaper!!
