well i thought id cured the oil leak from the back of my engine, but it,s come back,i don,t know whats happened but im rather cheesed off now,i replaced the crucifix seals and rear crank seal using the rave to the letter but it,s still leaking, and there is no sign of oil coming from anywhere else so im presuming something hasn,t sealed properly, just a shame ive wasted 2 days trying to fix it and im back to square one again bloody thing, wifes on about getting shot of it and going back to a mitsubishi,i just don,t know what to do yet, anyway rant over

Joking aside, i know how I would feel so I'm gutted for you mate :(
I can't think what it could be - blocked breather maybe forcing the oil past the seal under pressure ?

i cleaned them all out whilst the lump was out,im thinking of dropping the sump just incase it may not have sealed,i know it was a right pain putting the bearing cap back in with the new crucifix seals,im just wondering if one has torn during the refit, just a shame i can,t remove the bearing cap with everything in situe, mind that would be to bloody easy, stealers couldn,t make money that way

a little tip andy, get the car up so its safe and cant move. go under clean the area you suspect of leaking, then start her up and see if you can locate the leak. if there is no oil then get someone to rev it whilst you watch.

on the oil pressure switch on mine it didnt leak unless it was revved so i struggle to find it until i got my sis to rev whilst i watched!

oh and dont give up on it just yet!

done that gav,the oil is slowly seeping where the box joins the engine, ive got to say im really disapointed after spending best aprt of £100 quid on parts oil coolant etc,to end up back to square one,i think if i pull it out again im looking at about another £50 and the car off the road again for a couple of days,im convinced it,s a crucifx seal that,s causing it,or the rear crank seal isn,t seated properly but i checked them all about a dozen times before fitting it back together.i just can,t decide in my mind what to do get rid of it fix it or scrap it

depending on how much hassle it will be, could you remove the gearbox and leave engine in situ, then start it and confirm the leak?

it'll give you a chance to overhaul the gearbox!

maybe someone else can help you on the gearbox side of things as i've never took one out of a auto but i would assume its not hard as everything is just bolt on. even if you could move it back enough to disengage torq conv from engine stub thingy!

im not sure gav, trying to remove the gearbox from underneath on the drive looks a right pain, thats why i took the lump out instead,i think the main thing is the weight of the transfer box trying to topple the trolly jack over,i done the shogun one the other year to fit a new clutch, and even with a gearbox adaptor it still tried to roll the trolly jack over and my trolly jack is a big 4 ton one,and putting saftey first and tring not to cause any damage is a priority

only other thought is move engine forward but then the flywheel is in the way. it might just be a case of bite the bullet and get it out again! you could do with a way of pressurising it when its out tho in a similar way it is when running??

does this mean i'm in with a chance of winning the 'get the rangey running again' competition?

well im going to take a big gamble, and remove the rear bearing without splitting the engine and box and have a look at these crucifix seals,if it goes pete tong then i,ll rip the lump back out,so it should be intersting,im just going to order some new gaskets and seals up first.

going to reorder parts in the morning, for friday but tommorow im going to set the car up drop the sump and check the gasket even though it was new, then im going to drop the rear bearing as i think a crucifix may have got damaged when i did the refit

it should all stay in place when you take bearing cap off, shouldnt it?

also did you put a bit of oil on em when you fitted em as in oil filter style?

just a nice smear of fresh oil, mind it was hard work to get the damn thing back in,so either something wasn,t right, and ive ended up damaging one or there was something wrong with the ones supplied,im ordering my parts from landrover in the morning, only need a new sump gasket crucifix seals and a rear crank seal, incase the block is coming out again
