HI, I posted here the other day reference a service on a friends Disco 1 (N Reg) V8 Efi. The service all went well, and the engine performed much better once completed, and run fine yesterday all day. However, my original post made reference to poor starting. Now it wont start or turn over at all. I am thinking this starting issues were relating to a intermittent fault with the immobiliser.
The immobilser on this vehicle is the one with the chip you run over the top of the steering column shroud. It beeps twice as if its disarmed itself, but the starter fails to operate. I have noticed a black wire (thin) which runs up from the starter motor and has been severed just before the bulkhead entrance grommit on the drivers side. For the life of me I cannot see where this wire should be connected to, but I am sure this wire is something to do with the problem. The wiring certainly looks "aftermarket" and doesnt look like genuine Land Rover. There is also a red wire connected to the battery pos post and a green one connected to the neg post on battery. These both run in through the bulkhead grommit and seem to go up past the diagnostic socket and up into roughly where the radio is located.
Does anyone have any idea where this rogue wire may connect to? When using a continuity meter, I get a long continous tone when earthed when the immobilser is deactivated and when the immobiliser is active I get a rapid broken tone when earthed out.
Any ideas? Its driving me ferkin nuts !
