Hi Guys,

After signing up here to find out more about series vehicles with the idea of getting a tax exempt toy to keep the cost of green laning down, My Mrs made the fatal mistake of saying that she would preffer something more "pretty" like a discovery :D

When I finally get around to finding the cash for a weekend toy what should I be looking for & looking out for?

Cheers

Colin

she no likey! :)

Is the wife Asian?

dont worry about gas conversion. get a 200 or 300tdi dezzzil version of the disco. they are cheap as you like and the MPG return on a tdi is far better than its petrol equivilent.

200tdi discos go for peanuts. keep your eye out for a good one.

cheers for that, will keep my eyes open, it will only be for some green laning so nothing major, will need to check insurance quotes aswell I suppose :S

Hi there, is Mrs Malice going to be driving this vehicle? If yes - get her to drive one before you commit.

I bought one off a "lady" who fancied a Disco 'cos she fort they was posh, but apparently didn't like it.

she may drive it but it would be mainly for me to play in, if she dont like it then she wont need to drive it :D

Been checking insurance online and an getting quotes between 500-900 for an l reg disco :( looks like I will have to wait a little longer :(

There having a laugh! Unless you've got loads of endorsements on your licence.

My insurance for a K reg 200tdi disco was £167 TPF&T thru the Post Office.

Good point about wives. Mine has been driving for donkeys years, having driven loads of cars big and small, a good selection of vans, towed trailers etc but fookin hates Land Rovers. She can just about cope with a defender if she has to but absolutely hates discos. Her driving style , typical woman, just doesn't go with the way a disco needs to be driven:eek:

My wife loves driving my Range Rover.....but only if its on motorways or she doesnt have to park it.....she cant even get the handbrake off on the disco.

She loves the comfort and the high driving position but ****s herself when the body rolls going round a corner. Not as much as I do if she's driving though:eek:

Nope, clean full licence, think the main problem is the fact I have only held it since last Feb! the quotes I was getting were fully comp though, would be the only car insured in my name, my daily driver is in Mrs Malice's name (only fair since its her car....)

Whos quoting you these prices?Ive been refused insureance on me V8 by the big names but specilists (Adrian flux) got me covered tpf&t and breakdown less than £300

just getting quotes through go compare as I remember, so yeah, its the majors that are giving me the high quotes
Mug them off then mate!on a old diesel, with your age you shouldnt be paying much more than bout 400 notes.Get a copy of any landy mag, LRM, LRO etc and the back is full of companies that'll specialise.tell em you wanna off road it and they cover the mods you make etc-but all as long as they are declered!
