hello all
I am looking at wanting to add a light bar / rail on my car only for the fact really if looks and some night off-road driving. Now can light rail be fitted with out having to drill in to the body work ? Second tho it's totally for looks but looking for a raised air intake or snorkel can any one help??
Cheers Mitch

something like this for the light bar http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/4X4-LIGHT...255326?hash=item4171087a9e:g:Ju8AAOxyQj9RKRJr
For snorkels, you wouldn't need to drill main air intake but the supporting brackets would need bodywork drilling. IMO its not a big thing to drill holes in body / roof as long as it sealed correctly you shouldn't have any issues. Could just be an hour or 2 more work to make the add ons functional...You never know you may need them one day :)

No disrespect intended - snorkels are a good addition for a very dusty environment. I wouldn't expect that to be a significant problem for driving in the UK. On the other hand, a snorkel for wading through water is a good idea. BUT, if you are wading in water in your Freelander at a depth that a snorkel is required, door handle height? I would guess that you may well be on the verge of floating anyway. Replacing a tired VCU is probably a better investment along with a matched set of decent tyres. Together they will keep your transmission in good order and be a real asset when 'off road'. The tyres will look the business too.

Totally agree done all the mechanical issues I've had new vcu full set of BF all-terrain Tires fully service so why I'm having a play around with it. Snorkel is just for looks nothing else. Had water just coming over the bonnet at the front. The style I'm looking for is the rally back facing ones. For the lanes around here it's rocky more than anything. Also finished the underbody protection so everything is safe as can be. Just doing it to make it stand out and to prove to the haters it can do reasonable off roading.

More to the G4 style if that make sense

Fair enough. That eBay light bar would create a bit of wing noise wouldn't it? How about one of those LED light bars - they can put out a fantastic amount of light!
I'm going to be fitting an LED light bar before the winter. I'm going to fit a 24" version in the rad grille space.

If you have water coming over the bonnet then you are either going to fast, or the water is to deep.
A Freelander has a 400mm wading depth limit. ;)

I had a snorkel fitted which I took off when I got my Defender resprayed. I haven't put it back on as I now get about 5 MPG more. Plus if the water level is deeper than a standard defender can cope with I don't want to be in there.

On my L200 I had my light bar mounted on a roof rack rail, I just went straight through it with a drill. I put some sealant on the bolt never had a problem with it.

Far to deep wading is for pottering through. Been through deeper than 400mm In a corsa As long as you get a wave going everything is all good

Just keep in mind that a Freelander will start to float if water much deeper than 600mm is attempted;)
Additionally at that depth, the alternator and starter get submerged which really affects there life;)

No purpose of snorkel in a FL for deep water. Only for dust free /cooler air (like in g4). When you look at CT cars, those never had a snorkel, and those were used in more OffRoad conditions than G4.
Modded ( air resonator box removed and sealed connection) air intake in L-series is high (behind RH Lamp), in Td4 stock intake is from wheel arch, but alternator is lower than L-series, so deep water will be pain for your alternator and bank account ;) , anyway Td4 got to much sensitive hardware in engine compartment for deep water.

lol ;)
Yes, the TD4's ability to function for any reasonable period of time is bad enough running in dry conditions:eek:... at a bit of water......... yikes !!!.
:D
