looking at discovery 3 why is tax different

I love the green oval and have ny trusty 300tdi. But looking for a d3 with a budget of 10 to 11k.

Theres few 08 09 plates in that region but tax is 490 n 505 a year

And 2 56 plates at 290 a year tax

Why is there such a hike in price over 12 18 months newer

Emissions based tax as opposed to engine capacity tax. Older vehicles don't have emission details recorded so are taxed on capacity

I know on older stuff as well the number of seats matter as well. My dads old disco's one was a seven seater and that was different to the 5 seater.

This may be because although emission related VED applies from 2001, another band was introduced in 2006 to apply (non-retrospectively) to high emission vehicles.

Mine was registered 13 days after the new band was introduced.

Still worth it though, is a fab car even with it's foibles.
