Other Long term battery charging

Hiya

So had my D3 plugged in to the CTEK for a few months , turned it off and the battery lasted around 7 x days before going flat , before would last around 3 x weeks

There’s no residual battery drain so thinking if I may have messed up the battery by leaving it plugged in for a few months

Am wondering if I may be able to recover it, by turning the CTEK on and off manually instead of leaving it constantly plugged in along with using the Recon feature

It’s an exide EA1000 and 3 x years old now, would be surprised if it’s knackered already , do have a split charge system

haven’t been 100% happy with the exide if I’m being totally honest , know there power hungry but at the end of the day maybe I’ve ruined the battery with just short runs, however always ensured I kept it charged with the CTEK

Would u think a month is a reasonable figure if the landy isn’t used for the battery to last plse

Keep thinking of cutting my loses and buying a yuasa 020 at halfords , as have heard really good reviews, think there around £125

Our largest tractor spends all winter on an Accumate maintenance charger given there is no heavy work for it to do ..... ( and she's a thirsty girl )

The batteries are 2012 vintage, and they are still fine .... So, I doubt your charger will have caused any issues like shortening the life of said battery - unless the charger is kaput....

I've no relevant experience of Exide - but I'd suggest batteries are in the same parts lottery as many other things - we've a pair of Yuasa 633's on a generator - and they go flat at irregular intervals, all on their flaming own - They are just shy of 3 years old, and I doubt I'd replace them with more Yuasa - which is a shame given the quality name that Yuasa had years ago - they were fit and forget then, much like Fulmen, but they went down the pan anorl

bless u as I assumed the CTEK as per design wouldn’t do any damage but wasn’t 100%

just drives me insane , as before this issue would only last 3 x weeks, do have a split charge system but that’s a leisure battery for AUX supply for when the landy is off, ie camping etc

seems the exide are getting bad reviews, always useto use the varta or bosch

standard for the D3 is 019 but will go for the 020

can’t fit an AGM battery because my alternator will charge up to 15.8 Vdc and also heard they shouldn’t be fitted on D3

thks again and will be good to see what make of battery everyone swears by these days as i would have thought with the vast improvement of battery technology there are some that stand out

Both our Disco's are running Varta - SWMBO's is a really old Varta Blue, and mine has a Varta black GM OEM spec one ... ( which I nicked off our smallest tractor last winter - and haven't got round to replacing it yet )

don't be surprised, it happens also i presume that it wasnt so cold when it lasted more

Three years, time for new, it needs using gary, not standing for weeks

Already had exide replaced on ranger at nine months, both Land Rover batteries changed on disco 4 in warranty

The Jag had a Yussa Battery it lasted 5 years, i did run it down dead a few times,

My D2 has a new Numax battery and it spins her over like a top.

As a quick side note, these are the readings I’m getting with the disco locked and alarmed , sleep state

Always get confused with the decimal point, lol

Know u guys will know how to calculate how long a battery would roughly last from its sleep state Ma

So that yuasa I’ve looked at wont fit,

Plus an very tempted to fit a solar panel on the roof , have all the rails , there’s aux fuse boxes etc and the T may split charge system is designed for solar

may just resolve all the messing around with battery going flat

will cost around £140 for a new battery so may buy a solar panel and controller instead , plus will give the battery the chance when the weather improves if it holds its charge longer
