Disco 3 (LR3) Rear lower wishbones

Well looking at you photo it looks like you have done the hard part getting it off, now it just a new replacement, check out the link

If it helps this is how I found the air leaks by putting some air / smoke into the system and then bobble testing all the joints

many thks , indeed, got all the rear uppers all done , it’s now the rear lowers that I need to get replaced

had been looking at these, as they come with a 4 x year warranty

Many thks , alas though there abit on the cheap side , prefer to spend abit more to get some quality wishbones otherwise will be doing them again in no time seeing the D3 will eat bushes , brakes etc for breakfast

plus the ones in my link comes with all new nuts and bolts , cheap nuts and bolts have been known to literally snap when being done up to torque, which are from 275Nm/ 203 Ilbs to 300 Nm/ 221 Ilbs

Hi Gary, I don't see why you wouldn't be able to do the lower arms yourself. The back section of the exhaust is suspended on 3 rubbers, so just pry them off and let the exhaust drop, you might need to use a bungee cord or something to help support it but you only need to drop it enough to give access to the rear bolts. Seeing as you have done the upper arms and bushes there is no reason why you couldn't do the bottom ones IMHO.

As for the gearbox and a transmission fluid change I would say it is possible BUT if you don't have a lift it would be a bit of a challenge. I think if I didn't have a lift I would be speaking to a local Land Rover specialist or a transmission specialist as we know, the gearbox is fussy, you must use the right spec fluid and it has to be filled in a particular way.

many thks and very grateful, I’m going to have a look underneath and good call ref the exhaust , funny enough have some bungees but will have a quick look at the wishbones

Indeed, ref the gearbox, seen a few mess them up, have 10 x litres of mannol AG55 and know what u mean where it has to be done as per manufacture spec, have the gap iid so can ensure I’ve got the correct gearbox temp

there was one where they had filled the gearbox up with dexron and believe it trashed the gearbox , another one was where the oil was drained , refilled but they erm forgot to start the engine

plus thinking if I did start doing the wishbones and the mot expired it’s no hardship as the disco will be on my front drive so private land will also be insured and taxed, but will decide after I’ve had a good look first
