Hi

My 300tdi (95) is refusing to let me in. The fob was scrapped years ago so it just has key entry. IT was working fine until this afternoon. I locked it and it made a loud grinding sound and the key was stiff. I have gone to unlco it and the key turns with force to the left but will not unlcok. The passenger and boot locks are the same. I have no way to get in the car and before i ring the RAC just wondered if you guys could help. I have searched the forums and google and cant find a solution?

Cheers

use a can opener against the door ...

then to repair the hole you made you need to weld a piece of metal, look for someone with a signature containing:
"Need welding? MoT work undertaken Suffolk/Essex/Norfolk also gates, railings, posts, etc..."

more seriously, as I guess the OP wants a solution :
- a "legal" method is to use an unfolded metal shirt hanger either from the top of the door that you keep slightly ajar to grab the lever, or from the bottom of the window after you pulled the door-window gasket and try to grab the internal rod that unlocks the door
- a more controversial one ... check if your insurance covers broken glass parts ... hummm
in both cases, if you try to force open your car in a public place, have your details ready to prove who you are and your ownership of the car as someone could notice and call the police

You could try gently tapping a wooden wedge with a sharp leading edge approx 35 degree angle in at the top of the door adj the handle side, just enough to make a gap at the top so you can slide some contraption down to attach and pull up the lock tab. Maybe one of those 3 pronged grabbers for retrieving screws etc from difficult locations.

Thanks for the advice. Managed to jimmy a wire in to pull up the lock from the inside and get it unlocked. With the door open. The key will lock it no problem but will not open it and the tab is very hard to pull up once locked. Any ideas? Is it an easy fix, ive read somewhere about a spring that goes? Could i swap a part from the passenger side to use as a fix? Any help , redirection appreciated.

Basically you need to take the door panel off and see what's up.

The lock spring would not cause your particular problem.

Either lock has jammed, but perhaps more likely is central locking solenoid has jammed.

Take door panel off and it's the pretty easy to see the components and work out what's up.

Cheers :)
