hi all

Challenge for you

where is the engine no located on the P38 dse with the 2.5 BMW engine

NOTE please dont quote RAVE as have checked that and the only number remotely in that location listed there is a 5 digit number

Reason for asking Famous four stipulate need to know engione number for rocker cover gasket
have checked the web and had lengthy phone calls with them

they believe it should be an 8 digit no
i have 3 engines ( 1 in a car running)

1 on a pallet half stripped in the workshop 1 on engine stand next to one on pallet ready for the swappping over of parts between the two

I cant find an 8 digit number on any of them
Nor can famous four find an 8 digit one on an engine in there workshop

So challenge on guys any constructive help greatly appreciated

The 5 digit No IS the engine number ...............However BMW have been know in the past NOT to stamp the engine TYPE on the block ..My son has a 525D his engine No is 87231 is does NOT have the "M51" stamped before it

i.e. the 8 Digit No yer looking for would be ....M51/12345 Ect ect ect ....

Famous Four list two one up engine No 34928373 and one engine No 34928374 up. There looks to be no physical difference in the two photographs.

Island 4x4 only list one for all variants. Part No STC2026. Which is the earlier version. Later version part No is STC4177 according to Rimmers.

yep

all 3 engines i have look the same re rocker cover gasket
believe there may possibly be some difference round the back of the block

will wait and see

Famous four are getting both in so we will see from that

On mine there is a sticker on the rocker cover giving what I think is the engine number, it does match the log book, however it starts with 2...., not 3... as RAVE states - I've always wondered why that is?
