As a first time Landy owner, there are a few little niggles that have come up so far that I'd really appreciate some advice on, if any of you lovely people would be so kind :)

Just a bit of background...Landy is 1991 model, 90 200Tdi station wagon. Had £3.8k spent on it last year (have full book of receipts, all showing the correct reg).

When I drive consistently at 60-65mph, the engine temp gage goes right to the high end of white - almost edging into red. Is this normal? It returns to the centre of the white when off motorways or travelling more sedately. I have tried experimenting with the heater - initially it seemed that turning the heater on full made the temp go down, but then it seemed to have the reverse effect the next day (heater off = temp gage cooler) so I'm not too sure I can trust it!

Secondly, there is a bit of a 'gearbox rattle' - only very faint, but it disappears when the clutch is disengaged. Again, is this a normal Landy trait?

And finally (for now!) when driving through floodwater of 6 - 12 inches, the engine runs fine but the battery warning light comes on briefly. Any ideas?!

Any help and advice gratefully received - thank you in advance :)

enjin temp should drop a little when heaters are on full blast as all the hot air is being pushed away from the motor into the cab and being displaced by cooler air. Although landrover heaters are traditionally as useful as being breathed on by an asthmatic mouse.

all landrovers rattle

Cheers guys! Haha I know the rattle is going to be a characteristic - just like the breeze around my legs when driving, and the slightly damp seats ;) I guess I'm just trying to work out what is 'normal Landy behaviour' and what may actually need looking at! :)

wiltshire landyman - it had a new thermostat fitted last year; would it be likely to need another one already?

My Disco temp used to rise when engine worked hard otherwise it was ok

Also came down when heater on

Radiator then exploded when I was towing my mate home, had to pinch his for the rest of the journey:eek:

Old rad looked ok but was missing fins etc and generaly knackered

got a new ally one for 80/90 quid off fleabay:)

Welcome to the landrover experience. Having bought mine 17 December 2012 it has spent the best part of her life broken down!

I now find my self carrying a spare battery and one of those amazing high powered top of the range 25amp Brit part alternators.

I also carry some of that squirt foam I case I get a flat even though I have one of those bling bling jacks and a brand new halfords professional knuckle bars. The issue is I do not have a socket for the said knuckle bar hence the can of squirt foam I found in the old mans garage!

What else. I found that my Bose noise cancelling headphones useless in my truck due to an incredible amount of noise. I reckon a good 120db!

I have put some of this stuff in very random and odd places.

Has it helped? You betcha it has. My doors sound fantastic when you tap it with your knuckle. Oh the noise level has dropped sh1t loads down to a very calm and peaceful 119db!

Just for your reassurance though I have a series three.
