 On my way back home after work, I was pottering along the A1 at a steady speed, when suddenly i have No lights apart from side lights and tail lights. I can flash my lights and they are fine. Managed to get home, checked bulbs, and fuses all ok.

wiggled everything about, and now appear to have very very low dip beam when i put my side lights on. called my breakdown company and what a waste of time they were.

So no dip or full beam, could this be a light switch/stalk just packing up suddenly. Is there a relay/controller? or is it all built into the stalk?

Land Rover Discovery 200 tdi

Does anybody live in the Peterborough area, who may have a spare one I could try, or give there expert opinion?

many thanks

The stalk switches are known to occasionally give trouble, but I'd also check the headlight earth points too, and also the headlight connectors which are also known to have issues .. ;).

Isn't there a Dim/Dip relay on the 200Tdi that fails in this way?

Peter

If it was bad Earth or connector...... Would they both go at the same time? Would I still have my full beam Flash facility available, but not dip nor full from normal switch operation?

If there is a Relay, Where the Hell is it? I was told that the 200 didnt have a relay or is this subject to what year my 200 is? 1994.

Many thanks

OOps sorry - I-Phone dislexic keys - shud have read "MFU OR an injin fooz box"

Thanks JPS will check as soon as im home, lets hope its something that simple!!!! That simple says I. lol I havnt got a damn clue half the time. lol

Will it be a case of just re-joining that little black wire?

Pretty much, its quite self explanatory when ya get in there, just undo the stalk halfs a wee bit, bare the wire and trap it where the remains are!! thats all i did, and its still going strong mate!!

How do yu know - I thought yu sold yo Disco?
Hehehe na just broke it mate, brought another, completely stripped and rebuilt! now the proud owner of two 200 tdi disco`s although one is a breaker! Thats why ive been away, hanging my head in shame whilst a drove a ****ty 306!!

Will I have to remove the steering wheel to do this, Or if I have to replace the stalk????

Sorry the mad Hat Man but what is MFU?

On Post#3 there is a circuit diagram - it shows an MFU and an engine bay fusebox. You have neither on a 200TDi, so it dont matter. The only Multi Function Unit in a 200TDi is the one wot sits on the drivers seat.

Thanks I am slowly learning. But have to be care when I go into Multifunction mode, things could go drastically wrong. lol

And when that goes wrong you is fooked!!!

NO, Undo the two halfs of the surround, the bit where the stalk sticks out! then look round the back of the stalk, ie side closest to clocks! look for a small black wire, give it a gentle pull, if its not already hanging!
Thats a gentle pull not tug of war!!!

If its come away then just get screwdriver, partially separate the stalk, bare the wire, and try and put it round the screw where it was located!!

Now, u should have it??????
