hi

Just a quick one, am looking at getting front lamp guards. Was looking at the genuine ones but have seen the ones that clip on instead of drilling the wing

Front Light Guards Black Land Rover Freelander Lamp NEW on eBay (end time 20-Dec-10 18:48:27 GMT)

Anyone bought these before and what are they like?

They probably look good - for my '05 I think drill one side is only option.

I would like some BUT - remember they are cheap plastic and not a metal guard.

It has always put me off. Better to have none than cheap plastic - but only my opinion.

I think the stuff of which the white lampcovers are made of is stronger than the aftermarket "guards" ???

The ones that clip on won't be as strong as the ones where you have to drill. The genuine ones leave a gap of about half a centimeter if you fit them properly (acting a bit like a buffer) whereas it looks like these ones that clip on won't leave a gap (no buffer between the headlight and the protector).

I've had a brick (yes a brick) thrown up from my bro in laws 90's rear wheels before and it hit my headlight head on before bouncing onto the bonnet. Headlight wasn't touched, the protectors are stronger than you may think. If i hadn't got the protectors on, i'm guessing my headlight would have been smashed.

Surely better to let the brick destroy the light then have the brick bounce onto the bonnet and ruin your paintwork........got to be cheaper to sort a lightout.

hi there

the clip on guards are very good quality and only the rim of the guard touches the light why would you want to drill the front wing asking for trouble if you ask me

cheers

Why? Wing isn't metal, it's plastic so no rust worries and you just leave the guards on.

Thought I would I would update, ended up getting the proper ones and drilled my wing. As previous post saidthe wing is plastic so my worries vanished regarding rust. To be fair they do look better as well than the clip on ones.
