Disco 2 Light Bars and switches

Hi folks,

Looking at getting a light bar on the D2, mainly for the purpose of being able to see better on the farm with these dark nights and would definitely come in handy come lambing time.

Just wondering what you guys have on yours and how they look.
What size fits the d2 best. Looking currently at something along the lines of this but not decided.


Also what switches do you lot have and where are they mounted. Want them to look as tidy as possible.
May in the near future look at fitting some form of spots to the rear and potentially some amber strobes in the rear as well. So need to account for those with the switches.

following as well, my next project is a light bar!

I'm undecided on the light bars. I love LED torches (another hobby of mine). But most of the light bars still seem to use crappy LEDs, are super cool white (often with a blue tinge) and poor CRI.

They also seem hideously expensive often. Although lots of cheap Chinese ones. Which I think the main concern would be longevity and durability. I suspect they are not always as water proof as you'd like.

That said, I they do seem to put out a lot of light and the cheap ones at least seem to be good VFM.

Lightbars come in different types, some far more floody than others. So make sure you get the type to suit your needs.

The ones with reflectors, even if they claim to be flood/spot combo's will tend to be more floody. The ones with 'fisheye' aspheric lenses tend to produce more of a spot beam and a lot less flood. And the latest craze is '5D' lenses. These are still fisheye lenses, but the outer LEDs have a wide angle flood lens. These 5D bars should offer a good mix of flood and throw.

As for mounting. Personally I'm less keen on roof mounted, although as work lights they might be ok. But you do tend to get glare off the bonnet. I prefer lights mounted in front of the vehicle.

Defender heated seat switches off Ebay, modify the blank cap off the dummy switch by drilling a hole and scratching a light symbol.

Work out the wiring, need wire for the light as well as power for switch, 5 wires, 4 in use.

I cannot remember the wiring BTW.

I've also got a pair of front square LEDs all wired individually through relays on separate illuminated switches. Unbelievable brightness with Cree LEDs oh and fitted to the roof rack with sealed bullet connectors and mad a deflector nice and quiet

do i ever use those carling switches

fitted a few in other landies and found them very good

All mine are carling mounted in a large mud pod on centre of dash

that's what i thought on the fenders , they do some nice kit , expensive mind

still think the fender is the best looking landy

really hope they don't ruin the new model

Looked at the carling switches, quite like the look of them. Think they will give the tidy look I'm hoping to achieve.
As for switch mounting I've racked my brains and thought about mounting them between the 2 front window switches.
Checked on the Mud Stuff website and a 3 gang mount looks like it will just about sit in there nicely. Not a lot of room for error though.

Looks good grezzer, hoping to try and keep mine as close to the roofline as possible so might be a case of fabricating some brackets to make suit, although I'm sure there will be some available on the market.

I spotted a discovery drive passed me a couple of days ago that had a light bar very similar to the one in my original post. It seemed to be mounted onto a standard (for lack of a better word) light bar that would normally come with 4 spots on. But I can't be 100% certain as I only saw it in passing, It looked really well though and was pretty much how I'd want mine to look.

I popped out an unused switch in the set of 6 where HDC, heated windows and off road mode live.

Anymore and I will pop out the blank by the fog lights.

Light bar has arrived today, similar to the one in the picture on my original post. Just a combo beam one. I did a little research and think the combo is probably best for what I want it for.

Probably going to opt for carling switches when I finally get round to fitting it. Mud stuff happens to be just up the road from me so will have a nosey at them up there before I buy.

do u know i thought about that, if it cleared the snow due to its low heat output

doesn't sound too good, have noticed in led bars etc the light isn't focused, if that makes sense

keeping all my headlights etc as halogen , just upgraded them to osrams night breakers

if i wanted to put some other lights on my D3 would get some halogen spots ,

know the led bars give a flood effect, also better on lower voltage

they are good switches , see there's quite a few cheap copies on ebay, but wouldnt entertain them

seeing if there really bad could cause a fire

I like that, tad expensive for what is like.
I was hoping to find something that would fit a coin/ash tray so that would be ideal!
