Hi

I'm after a light bar for my truck cab 110 anyone got any advice.

Where to get 1 how to mount it etc.

I've seen a couple that are the same width as the radiator, mounted just in front of it. Discreet, simple and effective.
Should be wired on a new fused supply from the battery, switched with a relay which is triggered by the high beams- then it's legal. You are allowed to have a switch which turns the light bar off completely. As long as they only ever come on with the high beam, there are no restrictions in the UK on height, number or position. But they should only be white or yellow (not amber) and on a 1991 vehicle or newer should be e-marked.

I agree and that bar looks superb (made in Britain too) - I must admit I didn't know about sp-4x4, they have some good stuff :)
 
I had one fitted to my Disco and while it gave off great light it more or less mirrored what the headlights lit up on low beam ( although much better). The problem was that I could not leave it on with the headlights when cars were coming the other way as it would dazzle them and when I used main beam it didnt throw light further than the main beam just lit better anything that was closer. Handy in that respect but not quite what I was hoping for. If I was buying again I would try for one that was more spot than flood.
 
Lightbar on the road or offroad use only?

Offroad anything goes.

On road the lightbar will be what is known as an optional headlight so must be approved for road use and be wired correctly. The approval mark will have the light function code R on and the total peak beam reference number must not exceed 100. Also needs to be wired so it goes off when main beam is switched to dip beam.

There are some full width lightbars out there however whilst they may be good for lighting up an airport runway they can be too bright! Yes too bright as you can get light bouncing back off items. Also when you switch big bars off you could be driving 'blind' for a few seconds as your eyes adjust to vastly different light levels.

Two or 4 smaller bars wired independently and you have a choive of light levels.

Hi, Neilly! I have mounted it, but haven't installed the electrics. We had installed a lot of new bits (new lights all around, surrounds, grille, hinges, door windows) that day and didn't get to the wiring. So I don't actually know how it works. But the package did come from Germany, there were no additional taxes, the bar seems solid and well put together, no visible faults etc. We will do the wiring when it gets a little warmer here (also need to install a new heated windscreen, new fuel lines from filter to engine, so quite costly as I am not good doing these things myself).

I put the bar on GRP4x4 mounts and am really pleased. NB!!!!!! the mermaid singing sound is crazy. This long light bar creates super loud noise, I was not expecting that. I ordered some noise cancelation rubbers from GRP, so should be OK soon.

I got a cheap Chinese 52" off eBay. About £60. Wasn't expecting much but am incredibly impressed with it. I have full LEDs on the front and combined with the roof light, it's the best night vision I've ever experienced in a car. Even the kids agree that it's amazing, and they never agree with me ;)
 
I'm slightly confused by these. My son picked up a 52" bar from Raptor4x4 at the LRO show. He paid about £100 and the output is excellent, although it sees very little use as he wanted it wired purely for off road use. Unless you have access to private land, who is off roading at night? As BOATs are regulated but unpaved roads normal rules apply, he could not even Green Lane with them; and why would anyone Green Lane at night?
Ohh, apparently he bought them for the look. So if that was the plan why not buy a cheap Chinese one?
However the small one he had wired in just above the rear door on a separate switch is brilliant. Works well for extra illumination when reversing and provides good light for working out of the back or just sitting and chilling. It was also less than £15.

Why can’t he use it on the road? If it’s wired to main beam, it’s legal.
