Just wiring my light bar, just using 2 spots for now on it. I've wired the relay etc properly so is not the issue, but for some reason, it keeps blowing a fuse even though I've wired it correctly.
Seems like a daft question, but how, as in literally how have you lot assembled the bits of wiring going into the lightbar and the lamps as well as earthing it.

I can build PCBs but it would seem that I can't making a ****ing light bar work with 2x130w lamps!!

Photos would probably help too.

Cheers guys, might seem daft but help would be greatly appreciated.

Exactly as is stated on the wiring diagrams you get with the ring spot lights. What does everyone else attach there earths to? As I them to the metal on the bar itself then a wire to an earth coming off the end of the bar. What earth points would you recommend?

I wired mine (4 lamps) by splicing the earth off of each lamp to a single earth lead to the relay. The same applies with the 4 live feeds from the lamps on a single live to relay.
I could've sworn I wired mine correctly too until my neighbour noticed I had two of my terminal contacts A about F on the relay which blew a fuse. After swapping them over the floodlights were on!

If you need photos I would highly recommend a visit the site of Urban Panzer www.discovery2.co.uk / Roof Rack Lights there's not much you won't find on here!

I always use one 40amp relay for each pair of lights and seperate wires for each lamp all the way back to the relay.. that way you can use any size bulbs you want and know ya never gonna blow the relay. As long as you change the fuse to suit yu shunt blow the bulbs either.

Think I'll give that a blast tomorrow then. To splice into the main cable feeding all of them, did you just remove a piece of insulation and solder on the other bits then?

So you didn't actually use the car as an earth point between the relay and the lights, you just wired it directly between the 2?

Correct, but if memory serves me the relay was attatched and earthed to the inner wing under the bonnet after scraping a small area of paint away.

Could I just use a bit of twin core for the live and earth going to the light bar and splicing off it for for each lamp then running the earth directly to the earth on the relay?

No I didn't. Let's get one thing straight, I'm no electrician, auto or otherwise!
If I were to go back to rewiring the lights for whatever reason then yes, I would strip the insulation and solder the joints. Instead I used spade connections which has the detrimental effect of bulking up the loom. Not the way a sparky would do the job but I ain't no sparky!
Due to the diameter of the lightbar it didn't matter too much about the loom being a bit bulky 'cos it can't be seen anyway.
I finished the loom with plastic sleeving to give a little protection when offroad.

Pass. I'm sure someone with far more experience than me will give you all the answers.
