Lifting a Freelander?

I don't know much about lowering or lifting cars, so I'm hoping someone can fill me in.

I have a FL1 TD4 51 plate, and it's just too low! I don't even do any extreme off-roading and I've already managed to crack the plastic engine guard cover underneath the engine bay. I just think it's crazy that a Land Rover (albeit a Freelander) can be easily damaged just by driving along some farm tracks! (pretty much like what you see in my avatar)

Unfortunately I can't replace the car atm. I would have bought a Disco 2 had I known that my Freelander's idea of offroading consists of being 6ft up in the air at my local garage. That aside, is it worth lifting the vehicle? If so, how is this done and at what cost?

I've bought some of the 40mm lift plates that are on ebay at the moment. Still yet to fit them though.

They fit on top of the suspension struts. Fairly easy enough to fit.

Am i right in saying you've got 17" alloys from your pictures? If you swap to 16's and get some Grabber AT2 tyres on you'll gain a considerable amount from them.

im looking to buy that lift kit but hear it effects and damages other components of the steering suspension etc over time...? do you no if thats true, plus the clutch on my freelander recently went after abit of heavy offroading, it has don 67k now and probaly needed doing anyway but do you think ill be needing a new cluth alot more often if doing offroading once/twice a month? cheers

If your components are worn already it may accelerate wear on them such as the CV joints and steering rod joints but replace these and you'll be grand.

Depends how you drive off road, ride the clutch a lot and yes, you'll be needing a new clutch regularly.

I have 16's on mine. Can you please say what size AT2's to go for to get maximum lift? Tx.

Research suggests you can go to 235/70/16 size but i'd recommend fitting the maximum of 225/70/16.

I've got 215/70/16's on at the moment but when it comes time to change i'll definitely be getting the 225/70/16's fitted.
