Hi all,

I've just spent an hour searching here for how to replace the lift pump on a DSE 2001, and there are lots of references to a thread about it including a template of where to cut the floor, I'm buggered if I can find that thread.

Please someone..

Yes it's me again, like a broken record, drop your tank to replace the pump. You can then check/replace the brake pipe that runs behind the tank before it bursts ( ask gfromleeds ) regards:D:D

Yes not a pleasant experience!!!!
I can laugh about it now though
especially that there was no long term damage except my favourite ben sherman boxershorts now have a permanent mark in the back lol
:crazy_driver:
But I said it before and i'll say it again "someone was watching out for me cos that day could have ended soooo differently"

Well, now I'm confused.

How difficult/ what kit do I need to drop the tank. Isn't the drivetrain in the way?

.. And last time I asked, the stealer said the fuel pipe wasn't available.

Its a standerd make yourself brake pipe
Its a proper barstuard to undo the tank bolts as there unlikly to have been moved since built
The drive train isnt in the way no
Just bear in mind the weight of the tank will depend on how much fuel is in it

I dropped the tank, removed original pump from end of corrugated flexi hose in sender / pump housing and replaced it with a very coarse filter (an inline unit - with the end cut off in a v). This allowed me to fit an external inline pump just forward of the tank. Why- well seeing how small the original pump was, and the restriction that it causes when failed, I felt a more heavy duty pump would work better. Being external makes it simpler to diagnose any future problem. I used a gear pump as it handles veg oil without any problem. If you're not running 100% veg then a standard inline pump would be fine.

You'll probably end up cutting the clamp that grips the filler hose so a new hose clamp is needed.

Also it's quite awkward to get the filler hose back on when its cold. I found softening it with a heat gun made things much easier. ( not advisable with petrol models as likely to be a Big Bang).

Second time I droppped the tank - I was able to drop and refit alone using some supports and bits of wood. (The first time I dropped it - was to do the brakes and rustproof everything and I left the original pump which failed 3k miles later )
