If you mean two identical examples, then one is a spare. Can't think where you would put another one - but I have a feeling that someone will tell me.........................................................................:D:D:D

Biglad they are identical , in the kit i got 2 gaskets 2 olives and 2 nuts , i have looked at busterbuses photo exhange for his defender and he uses gasket type sealant as well as a gasket , so are the gaskets not thick enough? or will one be adequate

I've only done two or three on Discos, but each time I used one gasket plus Hylomar to 'glue' the gasket to the block and hylomar on the water pump to ensure a good seal.

Every time I did this they stayed water-tight.

belt and braces approach is usually the best way with any repairs, why just use a paper gasket when for less than a quid you can seal it and be sure:D

Hylomar ?
i have some blue instant gasket stuff in a tube says its replaces gaskets and it seals its a solvol product got from a carbitz type shop . same stuff ?

will be about the same stuff, hylomar is a trade name but most places stock it

well hopefully will get round to changing the lift pump thursday ,should of done it days ago but been struck down by canteen food ,how can you not cook pasta properly , our canteen can, dodgy carbanara, what between weather and food had the pump a week now, and cant get over 2000 revs lucky i live only a mile from work .

When you use the instant gasket, use the thinnest smear you can get that covers the gasket. Nothing worse for an engine than blobs of sealant getting stuck in some oilway or fuel jet ...

Paul should of read this an hour ago , i fitted the lift pump with a good smear of extra sealant and have just gone for a run , filter changed lift pump changed and sedimentor cleaned , and she is fiesty again boy did she want to go compared to the last few weeks , unbelievable what clogged lines can do i was convinced somthing was wrong with the servo as she would not go over 2000 revs, thanks to every bit of advice, me a spanner shy mechanic fixing my own disco great feeling for me and that she is running great again , questin now should i stay off the oil untill summer and i only use new oil or carry on in a less %

They give you two because that pump also fits another engine which has a spacer, one for the block to spacer one for the spacer to pump.

it was a brit part i put on £17 from e bay how long do i expect to get then from this part, and what should i have gone for , allways willing to listen to advice , what make would the likes of paddocks give ?

not being funny but i would be carrying a new one in the car along with a couple of spanners and the rest of the gasket sealant, britpart lift pumps are pish m8, try island 4x4 but phone em, don't just order off the web site. tell em you don't want a britpart chocolate pump and they should sort you out:D
