Hi all,
I gave my 300Tdi disco a service today, well tried to! I cleaned the sedimenter lots of gunk and changed the air filter but when I changed the fuel filter I followed the haynes manual to bleed the fuel system by pumping the handle on the lift pump and nothing happened!

It didn't pull any fuel through at all could the lift pump be nackered?

At the moment I have put the old filter back on with the fuel still in it as I was worried about not being able to bleed the system!

Cheers
Matt

Just fill the new filter with denzel before fitting it. It'll be no different to fitting the old filter with fuel in it.

was there any feeling in the primer after you fitted the old filter back on?

nope I tried pumping it when the old filter was back on and it didn't feel like there was any resistance. I thought about filling it with diesel but idn't have any new diesel to hand.

it is possable the the engine has stoped in the wrong place turn the engine over 1/4 of a turn and try again but fill it new filter and start it i never even botherd filling them on my 200tdi 90 but i new the lift pump worked if it stoped

i hadc the same problem with mine and found it had stoped in the wrong place, toped my filter up 1st fitted it, started the engine and it cut out cranked the engine for a moment and away it went, dont recoment it though.

i replaced lift pump to find old one was ok so like martin said try moveing rotateing the engine by hand slightley

or fit a manual hand pump in line

Same as the other guys said. Try turning the engine 1/4 of a turn and feel for resistance. Top up the new filter when you change it again. the manual hand pump is a good idea to leave there incase ever needed again.

Hi all.

I had another go at changing the fuel filter at lunch today, tried the lift pump first and it worked! So whipped old filter off filled new one with diesel bled the system with the lift pump, jobs a gooden!

Thanks for all you're help guys!
