Hi guys,

Struggling to find what I need before I tackle this job. I have read spring turret retaining rings and the plates to fit at the bottom of the springs to hold them in.

Will I need new bolts if so what sizes are they?

Also what is the best way to tackle it, would I jack the back end up first and put axle stands under the chassis then remove both rear wheels and use a bottle jack from axle to chassis to lower the axle and remove the spring and replace?

Similar for the front, unbolting the anti roll bars to allow for the axle to drop down further.

Thanks

Brett

Depends if you mean just adding springs, lift plates or the whole hog of springs and shocks.

Dunno, what shape are the old ones in?

Again, it depends ...

Guess what I say here ...

To elucidate a little .. are you after a simple lift it higher to look cool job where articulation and manners don't matter, a better green-lane/Playday tool or full-on plaything with mega movement?

There is NO simple answer. My suggestion would be to drive it, play with it, determine what's stopping you going further, how or what you're getting stuck with, or what you want to do more of and go from there.

More info might get better answers ... ;)

I am changing the springs and shocks ase mine are original, sagged and leaning.

I want a nicer ride and if I lift it 2 inch I can put some slightly bigger tyres on, I use the truck as a shooting vehicle and whilst it does everything I ask of it now I like the look of the bigger tyres and I could do with some new ones soon anyway.

Probably 265 maybe even 285 but ive read they will trash your bearings and cv joints monthly?

Obviously I would need to cut and fit flared arches to get those tyres on.

If somebody local wants to fit the springs and shocks feel free to message me a price :)

In that case ..

Turret retaining ring bolts usually snap when undoing them, soak in Plusgas for a day beforehand and you might not need new ones ... You won't need plates at the bottom 'cos you're not extending the reach any more between shock and spring, so they should stay in place OK.

Easiest way I found is to use 3 ramps, drive onto them and use a jack to lift the chassis at the wheel to be changed, the axle usually flexes enough to get springs out, 'cos you're already going past where they'd usually go. Front and rear. The awkwardest part is the top front shock nut. If you're lucky the shock tube hasn't been mangled and a mole grip can get a grip .. If not, undo the lower mount, (Stillsons on shock tube if it turns) the turret retaining ring and pull the whoel thing up to deal with on the workbench.

I take the Anti-roll bars off completely .. remember they do need to go back on though for the MOT, if it's a keen, Landrover knowledgable, tester.

Where's 'local'? ;)
