Has anyone ever done this? I know what I would need to do to change it and just wondered if at that point I would be as well just rebuilding my own.

Plan would be to take a good rebuild LHD early Defender axle, same as mine so narrow radius arms, then whip the hub body off the NS of my axle and rebuild it onto the LHD axle with all the new newer parts of the LHD axle. Then just leave the double steering link hub body on the RHS.

Just looking to hear from someone who has done it, sounds better to me than rebuilding both sides, swivel pins, chrome balls, then I would want to do the bearings and discs and pads and everything that looked like I would need to do when it was apart.

the only difference between lhd or rhd is which side the double arm swivel is ,if it has a double arm swivel either end its fits both as td5 axles all do,years ago when we built new axles for lr we used do do just that as it reduced the number of axle types needing holding in stores

I've managed to source a rebuilt RHD axle - so there will be a good front axle albeit with leaky swivels due to worn swivel pins available soon complete with a couple of 2/3 year old calipers, good pads and discs and a good diff - axle spent most of 2013 indoors during a rebuild.
