LEZ withdrawing exemption.

Hi all,

I have a D Reg 110.

I bought it with an exemption to LEZ.

all was fine until I bought a new private plate, the exemption was then withdrawn!

I got around this week to phoning them, and finally got through to a lady who indeed said I was exempt according to what was on the logbook.

I then received an e Mail asking for me to send pictures and the log book.
I’m troubled by sending pictures of the vehicle as I wonder if it’s had a body change at some point as it now has van body (no side doors) but does have a side window. (wonder if it was in the army as it has feint number markings that look like military)

but it does say seating for 6 on the log book!!!! (It doesn’t specify more than that)

Im very confused, and equally conscious that they will TRY to take this exemption away if I give them half a chance!!!!

Why was it originally exempt from LEZ?
I see nothing on tfl website indicating an eligibility to exemption.
 
I don’t really know that answer as I bought it like that (with a paper copy confirmation it was exempt from TFL) and that was enough for me. There isn’t any indication on the log book about its type only that it’s 6 seater

Take the pic from the front so they can't see the sides. If you stand a distance away from it, and zoom in, the sides will be more hidden behind the A posts.
 
They ask for 4 pictures- all sides….

I will be refusing this request and will be re registering my vehicle with its original, exempt number plate if there are any further complications!

TFLs statement is: PCN’s will be issued if drivers do not meet the new ULEZ Euro 4 diesel or Euro 6 petrol standards and fees are not paid.
So thats simples enough.
Also I might add is vehicles registered as Historic are exempt, so my disco is out, but my classic car and every day car are in.
Not that I ever need go within the north and south circular with a car :)
 
The gross weight 2999kg relates to the estate variant, which may be why they have said that it is exempt previously, the utility 110 is 3050kg.
Looking at your V5, it has not been a military vehicle, it has always been registered with DVLA..
 
Project x. you have my sympathy. i cannot drive mine pretty much anywhere in the LEZ zone without paying £100 per day or a £200 penalty. Spoke to DVLA and so far, they wont change the classification, as it was built as a commercial vehicle, even though it had side windows and seats added at some stage. My log book details are the same as yours. P reg def 90 200tdi. I also have £800 worth of PCNs against me so far. if i dont pay fast thery go up to £750 each.
 
@ProjectX , my ‘87 One Ten is LEZ exempt, not ULEZ though. Also classed as a Private/Light Goods vehicle, but the body type on mine is stated as “Estate” or “Station Wagon”, can’t remember which. Yours is “Light 4x4 Utility”, which I believe is the important difference. If the vehicle has never been a station wagon, then I reckon the previous LEZ exemption was a mistake.
If LEZ exemption is important to you, I’d stick with the original plates, keep quiet and hope they don’t dig any further!

+1 it sounds like you had a dodgy exemption to begin with.

with regards to LEZ it also doesn’t matter if it is ex-mil or not, as soon as it moves from the lez-exempt mod to the non-exempt member of the public it is treated like any other private vehicle that pays road tax (mod don’t pay road tax either)

Sorry it’s a pain mate. This will always be an up hill battle and likely not one you win. Even if you do the days of these vehicles being in the centre of any city are numbered. Having lived in london for many years I have to say, even as a defender driver, that I agree. The air pollution is awful and personally I support LEZ in any city.
 
This prompted me to use the LEZ/ULEZ checker. I used it a weeks or so ago just to check that the little Fiats were still ok because a) I had to go into central on Tuesday and b) Th e Daughter has one at her place in the ULEZ. Both failed. I checked again on Monday, both fine....

Anyway, Just checked the Lightweight and it tells me that I need to pay for ULEZ. It's 41 years old and registered as historic, so I've written asking for an explanation.

A vehicle I own that is also now classed as Historic is stated on the TFL site as payment is required if it entered the ULEZ.
Which it never will.

Out of curiosity today, I followed on through TFLs site and after it stated I had to pay, and believed that was wrong so as directed I went on to register the vehicle with TFL stating why.
So I followed the application through and after entering the reg number, surprise it then stated ‘exempt’ which it is being a 1976 Capri and registered as Historic.

So a but long winded, when TFL could have told me at the first instance of me entering their site.

I hadn't noticed that link to register, but followed it and got the same result. Snag is that it still shows as having to pay when I go back in. I wonder which database the cameras will use?

It’s possible that their computer is looking at the H prefix on the reg plate, so confused, with only 31 years it wouldn’t be historic. So it should take into account the original 1987 registration, and zip through cross referencing and accept your vehicle as historic, therefore compliant.
As I'm sure it does with other Historic vehicles that are fitted with a personalised plate.
