Hi everyone,

Sam here, new owner of a Defender 90 1986; looking for some advice on converters / fitting emissions reduction tech to the vehicle to avoid the LEZ charge when visiting London.

Any ideas or support greatly appreciated!

Many thanks,

Sam

Its costs £5k and you have no guarentees they wont change the goal post a year later.

Get the train, buy another car or pay the £25.

Or park outside and walk in the ULEZ its not that big its also AWFUL to drive through you may be able to do 12mph if your lucky.

Thanks for all your advice ... not looking good. According to DVLA I have to pay £100 a day already now in all of Greater London, but maybe I am doing it wrong?

Ahhhh sorry I misread it as ULEZ not LEZ.

The ULEZ is being expanded to cover the N & S Circular in 2021, then the whole LEZ around 2025 I believe (i must check!) So it just wouldnt be worth doing.

As above the work cost about £5k so thats £1k a year just to drive into Greater London.

I had a look at all of this last year , and even in Chiswick the Range Rover was going to be hit by the incoming LEZ/ULEZ changes. If you can leave the vehicle outside the area ( park and ride) do it. £5k for an adjustment to a £5k ish vehicle seems too much. If you really need a car, you could take the £5k and buy something like a Smart car.

Don't shoot me folks :D

Unless your Ninety is a Station Wagon(windows and seats in the back as Standard), and says so on the V5 document, that hasn't been able to enter the LEZ for over a decade.

You will not be compliant for the ULEZ unless your vehicle is Euro 4 compliant for petrol, or Euro 6 for diesel.

Getting a compliant car, or using public transport, are your only sensible options.

Thanks guys, looks like this car is for road trips only!! Will find a garage outside the city and think of different transport for London.

Where you from? Youd be able to drop your Landy near where I work, its a fairly safe area and free to park. Plus walking distance to Three Bridges station, roughly 30mins to London Bridge.

Id happily keep an eye on it if im at work. Few landys parked round here and mine almost everyday, never had an issue.
