Hello, first time post so thanks in advance for taking the time to read this.

My girlfriend and I are setting up a tour company off the west coast of Africa giving tourists a 4x4 off road tour of the island we'll be moving to in January next year. I've been trawling the internet to try and find a left hand drive Land Rover Defender 110 9 seater and have come across a few on ebay and some specialist dealers but they appear to be few and far between!

Is there anybody out there who has purchased a LHD Defender 110 in the past maybe for an expedition overseas and can point me in the right direction where I should be looking to buy one?

Ideally we're looking for a 2005 model (needs to have air conditioning!!) and hope to be able to pick one up for around about £13,000 tops! Is this a bit ambitious? I've seen a couple on the web for around £15k so maybe with a bit more investigating I'll get one within budget if I'm lucky. Import tax to the island we are moving to is a killer so need to keep the initial purchase price down as much as possible!

Thanks in advance for any replies.

Cheers

Richard

a lad on here got one shipped to the bahamas or some where lovely that he bought from a company called nen overland. The user is Natas, Pm him see what he can say.He does have a gay dog though.

Try Nene Overland or Nick Kerner Engineeering - they usually have LHD stuff as well as RHD. There are also some crop up on ebay
You ought to be able to find one "locally" though, which might stand more chance of coming in budget than an import because of shipping and duty, though not all will be LHD (the South African ones for example). You could maybe try the local lease/hire companies and see where they dispose of theirs ?
Gut feel is that £13k might be a bit optimistic for an 05 SW with air con unless you strike lucky or the car has had a hard life. Lateral option would be to look at the ex MOD disposal contractors over here and see if they have any ex UN or aid agency vehicles - Withams, Foley, Leavesleys etc.
I`d also think seriously about the reality in terms of comfort of using the back four seats for tourists on journeys of any length - and its a long way from the aircon ! You might want to think about one of the safari specials that the game lodges use ? Again local lease/hire companies could be a good source.
