I've noticed my led security light on the P38 is flashing quicker than usual when locked.

It does the rapid flash after locking then blinks very quickly at 1 per 0.5 secs.

It used to do it at 1 per 2 secs or therabouts?

The alarm siren is disconnected - was like this when I brought a year ago and never bothered connecting it.

Is this a sign the BeCM is awake?

I get a voltage across the alarm terminal connection of 9v on pins 2 & 3? Normal? No lights or anyother indication just the flashing LED. Which is the method to reset?

disregard last post Ive measured current drain on the battery and its 0.45 initially then after 1 minute drops to 0,03 0.04. The Becm remains asleep for 5 mins then wakes up again. Then sleeps. and so the cycle ontinues.

How long is it supposed to sleep for?

It should sleep until you unlock the car, unless it is received stray RF signals due to the older type Reciever.....

Other things that will wake the BeCM up in a car locked state would be activation of the internal perimetric alarm sensor detecting movement, or the alarm going off in my opinion....

Other who know the BeCM better than I would be able to shed more light on its 'nocturnal' activites.

But surely it wakes up to self level the EAS anyway? With behaviour like this I reckon a duff battery or one fitted with low capacity. TImed over an hour you'd use an amp every 30 hours which is ok.

When jumped the alternator charges at 13.9 at idle and 14.3 on load.

Battery cells are topped up to so new deep cylce battery...

Sorry for the running commentry but hopefully the above may help other people diagnose. I did think the RF however its been fine for 9 months and has always started on the button. The ammeter tests are as follows (at home on drive)

Awake 2m.00s
Sleep 6m.32s
Awake 2m 00s
Sleep 12m 32s
Awake 2m 00s
Sleep 12m 09s
Awake 2m 01s

All drawing current as above.

The EAS Self Leveling is done via the EAS ECU and not the BeCM, also the self leveling is done once every few hours not every few minutes....

If you havn't changed the RF transceiver for the newer type, or if you havn't removed the blue wire from the old type, I would say it was stray RF signals keeping it awake.

realising the BeCM isnt supposed to wake up - D/c blue wire as above and guess what...sweet dreams for BeCM....

Now to find the S*** who brought a doorbell at the weekend or a wireless router and send them the bill for the new RF and battery...

Alarm led flashes quickly as it does it's, is everything locked check. Then slows to the thief deterent mode, slow flashes. Constant fast flash would mean to me alarm is not setting.

Cheers Wammers.

I get the rapid flash on setting for 10 secs then goes into the theft deterrent mode. However before it was a slower flash on the theft dterrent mode like one every 2 secs now its one every 0.5 secs and I didnt know if this was normal. I coulnt tell if the alarm was triggered as previous owner had d/c the siren a long time ago. It does some times super lock but on occassions even on normal lock it sounds like the doors unlock with the "open click" after 20 secs, but returning to the car all doors remain locked and the led flashes in anti theft mode.

Ive put an ammeter on series on the battery negative and it draws only 0.035A when locked and sleeping. I believe this to be healthy draw and dont see it powering anything else.

I think its a duff battery and nothing to do with the LED flash rate. Last night it charged to 12.65V and this morning (8 hours later) was only 10.01V. D/C the blue RF wire and BeCM stays asleep as the draw remains at 0.035A for an hour which is the longest ive timed it at and gave up.

Not a revalation I know, and apologies to all for duplicate postings. Hopefully the commentry will help others out.

Sounds as if battery is tired. Get it shunt tested at a battery shop. That will show up any duff cells. As for alarm it may depend on which sounder you have fitted. The Claxon or the battery backed up one, which is connected into the BECM for charging and switching. If it's the battery backed up one the batteries could be duff being charged all the time. The leads to the sounder on this set up, are the same ones used on the claxon, so could be disconnected. But the units charging circuit would still be connected to BECM.

The second click after 15-20 seconds is the superlock motors enaging the superlock locks....

Suprised LR dont do a text service to to tell you everytime your car is started to.

Although I think they did 240,000v electrocution anti theft package as an option in case the barbed wire and SAS soldier in the back weren't enough.

The security R&D dept obviously spent all the money on the P38 and ran out by the time they got to defenders.

They first thought of having an SBS lad in the back. You can't see them. It's quite a shock to the would be thief. But the SAS are visable and a lot cheaper.:D:D:D
