Hi Guys

My mate's leccy windows havn't worked for about a year so I offered to give him a hand next saturday, niether of us are particularly good with cars but its gotta be worth a try..

The problem he's got is...

The front passenger window keeps slipping down when driving along but when you press the button you can hear a motor going but no "up" or "down" from the window and all of the other window have stopped working too...

Havn't looked at it yet but wondered if you guys could give me some pointers and what I should start with?

Thanks!

oh...its a 200tdi Disco

The passenger side window that is slipping will be the regulator. Take the door card off and operate the switch, you should see the regulator working. Sometimes the window comes out if the guide. As for the other windows, if they don't work at all start with fuses, switches etc and check inside the doors for bad connections/regulator probs.

the metal bits that hold the glass in tend to rust and fall to pieces, which causes the glass to come out the runners. also the switches break (as mine did) which is an easy fix

good stuff, cheers fellas!

Now I have a better idea of what to look for..

I guess we'll take a look see and either get the bits new (if there cheap) or from a breakers (If we can find one with a disco)

And just to make sure, the regulator should be attached to the scissor type mechenism?

should be, and IRC the runners on the bottom of the glass are different for the 200 and 300 models if thats what needs replacing, i found one in better condition at the local breakers

Don't try to operate the window thats slipping too much (as i did) or you will trash the scissor. Mine looked like a birds nest when i took it out!
