Learner wanting a Landy

I am 17 and i have 2 Landys (I don't advise this :eek: All of your money goes into em and parents moan :p) My 110 is 1986 2.5TD and my Series 3 is a 88" 2.25D. The Series is currently having a galvo chassis on it and the 110 needs a new boost diapham.

I have not got my Licence yet but my test is fairly soon :eek: I would advise you to get a car before you take your test, as you can sort out any issues (My 110 has just had a new engine in it :rolleyes:) and it gives you something to look forward to... (Is it sad i go and sit in the 110 and listen to music? :D)

Insurance wise - NFU and Footman James (Not the classic one, I did not know about them when i phoned up) have quoted my a grand on the 110 which i am pleased with. A Station Wagon would be cheaper as my 110 is a "Van" they charge more....

Nope Adrian flux said they wouldn't be able to, possibly due to age though so I'm understanding about it. Tomorrow though, my dad shall get a quote under himself so we may be able to buy the one I want.

After much deliberation I've decided upon this 3 series

NICE 1974 SERIES III DIESEL 7-SEAT+OVERDRIVE+NICE MILES on eBay (end time 20-Sep-10 20:57:44 BST)

I do know it used to be blue, the interior shot reveals that unless I'm misguided. I will obviously haggle it a bit but I'm fairly hopeful it'll be a decent first landy for me! :)

Still not got the diaphram sorted yet then eh? :D

Is your quote of £1k in your name or in your parent's name with you as a named driver? I didn't think Footman james would insure drivers under 21... or am I thinking of the NFU?

P.S. I also go and sit in my 110 and listen to music :D Just installed my CD player and 6x9s today :D:D:D

I can see the attraction..its a nice looking landy...but i think the weak point is the 2.25 engine (whether its diesel or petrol)..
 
Also (@ OP), might be pointing out the obvious, but driving an old Land Rover is absolutely nothing like driving a modern car - heavy steering (with no PAS), next to no power, slow clunky gearshifts and a very heavy clutch are just a few of the novelties of driving one. Some people love driving them (myself included) but others would loathe it and wish they were back in their nice new BMW. As my dad puts it, it's closer to driving a truck than a car, but you might love it :D Whenever I drive something other than my 110, I always almost put my foot through the floor when I go to dip the clutch, expecting it to be as heavy as the Landy's, and am always astonished by how fast it feels (even when it's just my brother's 10 year old 1.0 VW Polo :D) compared to the Landy.

I like it too but I think the Monodrome one is better for me (primarily because of my friends and the 7 seats) but Also I prefer the colour, despite it being a respray.

And In regard to Langers comment on INsurance. I also got that quote for the one I posted up, they said it was competitive but to check with other insurers first (wierd I thought but they were the best by a country mile!). and £1400 for unlimited mileage, which is very reasonably

Edit: @Langers I absolutely agree with you, it won't be a cushy ride but I'll enjoy every second of it! I've actually had previous experience when I was around 13 - 15 in my dad's Willy's Jeep, survived the war and it survived me! On private land of course, a private off road track to be precise :D And I really miss the feeling I got from driving that.

Diaphram has arrived this morning :D Waiting for my paddocks order to come though and then it shall be away :cool:

My "Stereo" in my 110 consists of a MP3 Player, A Invertor and a 2.1 Pc Speaker System..... The side panels shake :D

Footman James quote was my own name, NFU i am not sure as my Dad phoned them up. Think it was my name with my Dad as named driver (I think my Dad had to be on it so that they would insure me?)

Nice, I'm gonna need insurance soon - think I will try Footman James in that case. Been driving for one year as a named driver, so it should be a bit less than yours maybe?
 
im 17 and about to pass my test in a few week! ...and i really want a Defender 90! buying one isnt that much of a worry, im just concerned about what insurance quotes im gonna get! does anyone know what its like to insure a defender as a first time driver?

theres gotta be a way around it! ive heard its fair cheap on a defender 90, maybe if you insure it with NFU? my mate has just past his test and got himself an R reg 1.0 Corsa , and the cheapest quote he got was £2800! its just too much!
