Hi all I recently noticed I have a power steering leak ( I think ) orange/ red oil is dripping from above the front prop cv joint. I have the v6 version I have been underneath bu I can’t see where it’s leaking from I can see the pipes going into the Rack and they are dry. Any pointers where to look as there is heat shield below the rack. Also are the steering racks the same on the other models. Any info will be of great help thank in advance.

The rack can leak from a number of pipe joints, or from rusted link pipes.

Unfortunately it's a pain to get at on the V6, as the engine is very close to the rack. It is possible to do with the engine in place, but is far from easy.
Here's what the rack looks like without the engine in place.

I've marked potential leak points with red dots. You'll need to look through the inner wing track rod hole, or use an inspection mirror or small camera to see the actual position of the leak.

Thank you I

will have a look tomorrow do you know if the steering racks are all the same on the freelander 1 or are they different

On my V6 the leak was rcaused by rust around the passenger side pipe union marked on Nodge's diagram. If you remove the heat shield (2 nuts) it will help you look. Can't think of anything in the middle to leak but you may see the fluid tracking along the rack from one end. I second the above comments. Having changed a v6 rack with engine in the car it is, indeed, difficult but possible!! Come back to us when you have inspected.

I'm guessing they're all the same. They'll definitely fit, as the bodies are the same from 2001.
Thank you I’ve just had a quick look it can’t really see anything obvious but from what I can see is possibly where the track rods attach. I can Easley remove the heat shield so when the rain stops I’ll remove the heat shield and have a good look
