I picked up my first defender yeaterday, a 1992 200tdi pickup, as standared as it came out the factory, and one oner from new.

It had half a tank of fuel so drove home no problem, then filled it up today.
After I filled it up i noticed fuel all over the floor, seams to be leaking out of a 30mm is pipe at the top near the back of the tank.

Dose any one knowwhat this is?

Is there a comern fault I need to fix?

Any ideas welcomed im not sure were to start.

be careful when filling up as there is a small outlet in the filler neck that is there to prevent over filling, if you fill too quickly or dont have the fuelpump hose far enough in the neck it just floods out of this overflow pipe. I fill up reasonably slowly and keep an eye on the fuel as it goes in so that it doesnt disappear down the overflow...have a look in your filler neck and see for yourself...hope thats it, but a new tanks not hard to find if it is that...

Thank you for your quick responces.
It looks to be coming from the pipe about 30mm die on the back edge.

It dose not seam to be tracking down to there though.

its the breather pipe that goes to the neck of the filler. the rubber pipe that should be attached to it rots and breaks, this will be your problem. easy to sort out depending on the mud and jubilee clips that hold it on. they tend to get rust so you might end up cutting them off and putting new clips on as well.

Here's a piccy taken of a 200tdi looking from the front....

Aye;) Ah took one bolt outta each thing that fits on the bulkhead and gettin' the right number of nuts an' bolts then stuck them in the packets, cos knowin' my luck ah'd stick them somewheres and lose or use them before ah came tae do me bulkhead! (if that makes sense???);):D

Im guessing it lets the air out when filling the tank, im hoping i need a new pipe and clips and that will sort it.
