Please help, my 1999 P38A 4.6 auto is pouring transmission fluid out of the bottom front end of the auto box, where the torque converter bell housing is. The car has drive etc. but loses drive when trans fluid level pours away, top up again & drive returns, what's causing this to happen no warning signs show on dash etc.

If the oil cooler pipes are not leaking, must be a seal gone which would mean box out I'm afraid. Have you been underneath to check exactly where the oil is coming from?

Yes it's from the bottom of the bell housing joint to the engine, a small rectangular hole at the join. It pours out when the engine has run for a short time

Is it red if so seal in box if black crankshaft seal more than likely if your loosing drive gearbox if it's just a seal about £700 to remove box fit seal .

Thank you for your help, the oil is red so it must be the seal, I'll attempt to do this job myself, its about the only job I haven't done on my P38. I'll keep you all posted on my progress. Any tips would be appreciated

Two sets of axel stands 10 ton more stable a 5 Ton jack with a gearbox stabler fitted and strapped
Empty oil Make sure car is high enough for box to come out
Make sure connections are unplugged and cable disconnected tipex torq/ c and bell housing inner as a guide

Tip gearbox up right when fitting torq/ c use flex plate bolts to lower

Make two small wooden wedges to jam torq/ c in place with hook eyes and wire connected to the eyes to pull wedges out the when box is located there is enough gap to get wedges out about 7 hours work get extrA hands for moving box. Good luck :)
