I have recently purchased a 2001 landrover freelander 2.5 v6 es auto petrol, the garage from where she was purchased repaired one of the head gaskets, but on the journey home from picking her up we noticed smoke from the rear and the car would struggle to go above 5000rpm, if kept under 3000rpm the car drives fine and no smoke, on further inspection i can see leaking fluid but cannot find a source, the smoke is not coming from the exhaust but from oil burning on the exhaust, in the engine bay there seems so be something missing, as if a transmission fluid 'plug' is missing, literally just to the right of the engine at the bottom as if you were looking at the car. I can email pictures if anyone can help.

have you got any sort of warranty from the garage mentioned? i luckily bartered for 3 months when i bought mine and the inlet manifold went within it!

try put some pics of this 'missing plug' up if ya can... then we'll be able to see what it is.

sounds like you've definately got a problem though, are you able to tell if the fluid is coolant and if the expansion bottle is loosing coolant?

Thanks for response, yes i managed to get 6 months warranty just wanted to see if anyone had any ideas as i have to drive 100 miles back to the garage, its definately NOT coolant, no leaks there, fluid is a pinky colour so i assumed transmission fluid but again still cant see source of leak, i have read somewhere else that there should be a cap on the top of the transmission fluid but it seems to be missing, i wondered if this could be the cause?

Taken from Rave - is this what you are missing?
